Local spot for large appetites. Portion sizes are hefty and the price point is very reasonable. Windows and bathrooms need a thorough cleaning. I think if you stick to non Portuguese "american" style food such as the all you can eat meats and desserts like brownies you do much better here than anything more "ethnic" on the menu. Our allegedly Portuguese-style fish, wasn't. And the Portuguese flan was really nothing more than an average type flan drenched in an overly sweet sauce. Other misses on our visit included a "Greek Salad" which the only thing that made it Greek, was that it had feta cheese, the dressing was oil and vinegar, and not a dolma, super ripe tomato, kalamata olive, red wine vinegar or oregano to be found; a grilled portobello mushroom appetizer that came swimming in olive oil (and was delivered simultaneously with the salad; a cabbage dish that again was so devoid in flavor owing to being overcooked and swimming in oil. Lastly, despite a lengthy conversation with the staff, a house made key lime pie that was so sweet and lacking in key limes as to make it almost a criminal act to pretend it is a key lime pie. The "chips" were freshly made and well seasoned and the rice seemed well cooked...
Read moreThis review is for Taste of Portugal and NOT Boar Hat Wing House. Went here for a nice dinner. I really enjoy their picanha steak. The food was excellent as always. The service is good. It's a small establishment with no real wait staff except I believe the owner. She does her best to take care of everyone but when the place gets busy, is hard for her to keep up. We say and waited and waited for our check while she waited on other tables and made cocktails at their bar for another. If you don't mind the relaxed atmosphere, I do highly recommend them. I will definitely be going back myself. The parking is horrible but that's mainly due to the poor setup and horrible drivers here on long island that can't park between the lines. I don't daily the restaurant for that. The prices are fair for...
Read moreWe were very excited to eat here because of the great reviews. They have a nice staff. Unfortunately I couldn’t eat my half chicken dish. It was dried and I doubt it was grilled because it looked fried. The chicken tasted tough and dried, tasted refrigerated and tasted like I was just eating Adobe seasoning. Pretty much all of the other meat dishes we ordered were dry and rubbery. It had the taste of when food is left in the freeze too long. I don’t know if that’s a fact but the artichoke from our chicken special was still cold in the middle. Everything including the fries were just overcooked. I don’t think I’ll ever come back.I left the resturant still hungry. The only good thing I enjoyed was the wine, baked cod, and the app sausage, but that’s it. Who knows...
