If I could give negative stars I would. Their food is good but their attitude is through the roof. The lady in the front has been so rude over the years I have been there. I have been going there for about 8 years on and off. Clearly they have no manners and no nice way to talk to customers. Their menu isn't online, I don't know why, and I was told to check the menu before ordering, I'm sorry but nobody carries around a paper menu anymore, it is the 21st century!!!! I told them to give me a large salad, on the phone she was arguing over a damn salad, and I went and she explained the box was a cm smaller and it was 2 dollars more. I told her last time I had this box and I paid for small, her reply was "I don't think so" with her eyes rolling like she's in a freaking soccer field. Then to top things off, the owner came in my face and said yes I am the owner, what's going on? Like are you kidding me, they could have just apologized and given me something for compensation. Or even just an apology would have been good enough. They are absolutely rude and they have no manners to deal with customers. Please go to Kisoro on Old Country Road in which you receive 20% off when you order online. Also, you keep your self respect, they apologize and give you something to compensate and don't give you attitude like Taka Sushi. I am never returning again and making sure my friends don't either. SO UPSET, AND THE FOOD SUCKED TODAY, the fish was not fresh and...

I was lucky enough to grow up in a town with 3 Japanese markets and one of LI's first Japanese restaurants, in the early- to mid-nineties. I used to sneak sushi into the house after school. (Only because "it would ruin my appetite for dinner", not because my parents had anything against sushi.) Over the past ~25 years I've gone out of my way to eat sushi everywhere from supermarkets to some of the top-rated places in the city.

I only bring all of that up to put context to my assertion that Taka is among the best. The sushi is excellent, and even though I rarely go for the hot food, their donburi is also fantastic. Oh, and you know the terrible miso soup that comes from packets? Taka serves the exact opposite of that. It's dark, rich and homemade, and it's pretty much worth going just for that.

Some of the other comments said that the people at Taka are rude. I haven't seen evidence of that. They're very...

I have been going to Taka sushi for many years. I usually get Omakase sometimes with another special request. The sushi is not only very fresh but it’s so flavorful. I usually sit at the sushi bar and find that Taka, the owner is engaging and knowledgeable about the fish he serves. He has broadened my sushi pallet from eating only California rolls to eating more exotic sushi fare including nato and Uni(sea urchin). Over the years there have been many Japanese people at the restaurant . Some have told me that they come from 20 miles away to eat at Taka’s because the sushi and hot food are very authentic. I think it’s best to get reservations to assure that you will be able to be seated as sometimes it...

Beautiful restaurant. Reservations are recommended. Their nagiri and sashimi is excellent, some of the best I've had on LI. I tried the salmon avocado roll, spicy tuna roll, and special dragon roll. The rolls were good as well. The "special dragon roll' -- it was good but seemed like a basic eel and avocado roll but with avocado on top. It may have been the same size as the basic eel and avocado roll. The miso soup is also good - it doesn't have any msg. Beautiful restaurant and talented chefs. It's certainly one of the better sushi places on LI. It was a good experience overall and I'll be visiting again.

Taka in Westbury, New York, is a neighborhood sushi bar that delivers a genuinely authentic experience. The fish is consistently fresh and flavorful, while the rice used for the nigiri is perfectly balanced—firm without being over-pressed. It’s hands down the best sushi spot in the area. The atmosphere outside is quiet, with subtle evening lighting that evokes the feel of an izakaya in Ueno. Inside, the space is small, cozy, and distinctly Japanese, offering a warm and intimate dining experience. The only downside is that the shrimp nigiri is made with cooked shrimp, while I would prefer botan ebi instead.

Taka Sushi is hands down the best sushi on Long Island, maybe anywhere. The place has a simple, cozy seating arrangement with a full view of the sushi bar. The staff is friendly and there is a huge selection of appetizers, entrees, and of course sushi. We went last night and tried five of the more "special" rolls and we were not disappointed. In particular the Dragon Roll #1 with its delicious avocado was a show stopper. They also have a fair selection of japense beer wine and sake. Truly a place not to miss, I'm already looking forward to going back.
