We were visiting Corning and Watkins Glen and stopped by this restaurant to have a relaxing dinner. As we are Indian Origins we usually don't walk in to any Indian Restaurant as many are Americanized Indian Resto's , We were carried away by the cuisine Indo-Pak as we trusted their briyanis will carry that Pakistani style flavor. They have a HUGE, I mean HUGE HUIGE menu, I would call it as a Wedding Album that's running to several pages but they carry not more than 20% of that menu, even common drinks like Lassi, Masala Tea, Zafrani Tea, Filter Coffee is not available. At first we were excited whether they have a multiple chefs from different part of Ind / Pak to cook but then found that they are prepared to handle only very few items. So we have to order based on what they have, they could have rather have a printed sheet on what's the special of the day. With lot of expectations I ordered their Lamb Briyani Boneless (I prefer Goat for it's flavor in Briyani) but I have to go as they mentioned they completed a catering order today and that was the special they delivered it as well. So I went with that, but I never expected that a person who eats good level of Indian spices every day have to sweat out within few spoons. I have to order few cups of Raita to cool my palette. I genuinely reported this to the Head Waiter who also acknowledged that too much of masala is added and it was not properly layered and cooked, most of my dinner was spent on drinking water and having some White rice with raita to cool my palette. When the check came, he handed me over the bill with the Briyani and was not willing to take this out even though we left more than half of the briyani in the bowl and the rest of it in the plate. Few of their curries tasted good, which I certainly want to give credit to the chefs. But overall if they focus on what they are specialized even if its few items and deliver the same that would be great. Please walk in to this place with a mediocre expectations, atleast you will not be disappointed. But some Indian taste in a place like Horsehead is...
Read moreWe had a fabulous dinner on Friday at Mughals Tajmahal. The parking lot was packed, but we got a table right away. They were doing very steady business with take outs (in fabric bags!) as we walked in. We were so impressed by the renovation: it is gorgeous and so classy! Check out the fabric napkins with the sewn slots for cutlery! We loved reading the informational signs about famous people and buildings from the region.
The food was excellent. We were served papadums glistening with ghee, served with mint chutney and a sweet and sour chutney (tamarind?) as soon as we sat down. So good! And the kids think their mango lassi is the best thing they’ve ever had. The servings were so big that they put the cups in the fridge when we got home and finished them the next day.
My son had veggie samosas, and there were two large ones that were excellent, served with a mint chutney. My daughter ate a little of everything, and although she did find some things a little too spicy for her taste, the owners were clear in the menu that you can let them know what kind of heat you prefer, so will get them a little less spicy next time.
We ordered Chicken Korma and we also ordered Palak Paneer. The spices in these – not heat but flavor – were incredible! This was definitely, hands-down, the best Palak Paneer I’ve ever had. We did not indicate what kind of heat we wanted, and both had an about a medium level of spiciness.
The two dishes came with two kinds of rice: one that was more like a flavored basmati that had a bay leaf in it, and one that was plain basmati rice. We also got naan, and it was so fresh and good. My daughter couldn’t get enough! My husband also ordered some lentil fritters that came with tahini sauce that tasted a bit like hummus. They were incredible. He’s been to India and knew about them.
We look forward to ordering more food on our next visit, but the kids had already eaten on our way there, so we wanted to limit the amount that we were taking home with us. We...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant for the first time, and the experience was truly remarkable. From the moment I opened the menu, I was struck by its luxurious presentation—elegant, substantial, and clearly the result of a significant investment. It was, without exaggeration, the most impressive menu I’ve encountered.
The food arrived in about twenty minutes and was absolutely delightful. I ordered six dishes for dinner (excluding appetizers) on a busy Friday evening, and each one exceeded expectations. As someone who enjoys spicy food, I requested a higher level of heat, and the kitchen delivered beautifully—the spice added warmth without overpowering the complex flavors of the dishes.
The ambiance was warm and inviting, with music at a comfortable volume that allowed for easy conversation. Our family friends, who dined with us, also had a wonderful time. The waitstaff were courteous and attentive for the most part.
There were a few minor hiccups: the water glasses occasionally needed refilling, and there weren’t enough spoons for all the shared dishes. Additionally, one item I ordered was never delivered, and the naan arrived more than 10 minutes after the entrees, which made coordinating the meal a bit awkward.
Despite these small inconveniences, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, and I look forward to...
