Hunter Tavern — Restaurant in Town of Hunter

Straight up raw chicken in the kids chicken tenders order I had. The waiter and manager were apologetic and took off the cost the item and gave our table a 10% discount. But then, when they brought the check, they had double charged us on another item. Just sloppy and/or careless. It was unintentional I think/hope but come on people!! And to tell me that the reason is because you have a new chicken tenders recipe and the cook is getting used to it!? To cook a trained professional? I'm not sure what's going on there, but something seems seriously off. I did bite into it so I'm hoping to God that I don't have any issues with food poisoning or salmonella going forward. If you've watched Kitchen Nightmares, I can only imagine what Gordon Ramsay would have said. I think he might have been a bit more confrontational and visibly upset. And rightfully so. We're all human and mistakes happen but, you're talking about people's health and well being. I don't normally like to leave reviews that are so negative but I'm genuinely concerned for other people and somebody's got to say something if you're not using...

Rounded up to 4.5 The lodge completed a full renovation in July 2022 and the entire place is super cute and rustic chic! The two “chalets” (photos are not yet on their website at time of this review) are especially roomy and tastefully appointed (like all the rooms). The staff at the bar, in the restaurant and at the front desk couldn’t be friendlier and the General Manager (Rachel) is welcoming and clearly proud of her team, their efforts and the property. We’ll definitely be returning and I’ve already recommended the lodge to two friends!

PS My rating would easily be 5 star except for a couple of kinks I hope the staff is working through following the recent change of ownership and renovation. Examples being a distracting ceiling noise near the front door of our room (like a loud drip we drowned out at night with the bathroom ceiling fan) and the absence of two dinner menu entrees unsuccessfully ordered by one of our dinner...

We stopped into Hunter Tavern on a whim and had an incredible experience. Peter, who was tending the bar, welcomed us in and quickly served up delicious drinks. His partner, Joshua, who is also the chef, took the time to chat with us, making us feel right at home. They prepared a fantastic meal—a juicy chicken sandwich and an amazing burger with fresh, homemade chips on the side. But the real surprise came at the end of the night. They remembered it was my birthday and brought out a piping hot brownie, singing to me! It was such a sweet and unexpected touch that made the night even more special.
