This is authentic German flavor that can’t be found outside of Europe! And what a find right next to some of the most scenic parts of NY.
UPDATE 2025: Since our last visit a couple years prior there have been some major declines in quality which is sadly an indication of changes in the kitchen. But before we get to all of that, let’s chat about the positives. We love the decor and the overall design of this restaurant, the upstairs is a small but it’s a cozy space perfect when you need to escape from the cold! The drink selection of both German and Austrian beers and wines is a nice touch, with an impressive cocktail list too. We started with the Pâte which is delicious with the charred pieces of bread. When it came to the entrees however this was not prepared in the German style with the chicken breast being very thick and dry, which if you’ve been to Germany is unheard of! Randomly putting lemon juice over it does not help when the schnitzel is cut this thick and with zero flavor in the breading. My greens were served raw which who is in a kitchen and not knowing how to cook broccolini? And the red cabbage wasn’t appetizing at all. Our drinks were very delayed and we didn’t receive water promptly, tbh we didn’t receive this till an hour in! Please ensure the kitchen understands the assignment, because it would be a shame to lose your...
Read moreI have never been to this part of Upstate New York. I was not expecting anything, especially anything new. The weather could've been better, even though, I understand that this part of the Catskills is more of a ski resort location. I was looking to go to a winery, but found this wine bar instead. It may have worked out for the better, being the other wineries require a reservation, I've never been to this part of the Catskills, I didn't know anyone who had been to the wineries in the Catskills, and I really wouldn't know where to start with going to any of the wineries locally. Most of the wineries I've been to are more casual, and allows the wineries to interact with each other and their patrons. They seem to be more up to the challenge of giving their patrons advice about their wine and how it may be different or associated with recognizing the brand being sold. It did work out in the end, as I tasted the Riesling, a good blend of sweetness combined with an outdoor atmosphere. Individual heated seating may have changed my opinion of a wine bar, with or without the...
Read moreTop restaurant experience!
I came because of the good reviews on Google. Wasn’t expecting much, but left tremendously surprised. Thought this was going to be another American-style tavern with a bunch of townies - totally not the case.
Let’s get some easy things out of the way. The draft beer selection is great. Ale, lager, and IPA were all good. The food is absolutely amazing. The German Onion Soup, Warm Raclette Cheese, and the Wurst Platter - get them all. The chicken sausage on the Wurst Platter was the star of the meal. Simply too good to describe.
Now, what stood out to me was the service. Danyelle was top notch. Friendly, sensible, attentive - overall amazing. She is an invaluable member of the Jagerberg team. I visited here with my wife, and she had the sensibility to split our orders into two different plates. Simple things like this go a LONG way in my perspective. Truly amazing.
For anyone reading this, just visit Jagerberg when you’re in town. It’s not rocket science. When it comes down to nailing down the fundamentals, Jagerberg goes...
