Honestly I do not understand the hype of this place. The owner and workers are very kind I will give them that but this place isn't anything special. I guess people keep saying the "vibe" but honestly I could care less when it comes to Chinese food or any food for that matter. I been to hole in the wall Sicilian, Neapolitan, Korean, Greek, Viet, Chinese, Thai you name it all over. I thought this place was marketing itself as a more authentic Chinese food place. Well I was wrong... it is good - but nothing amazing or out there. I don't want to name places since that is wrong but around the SBU campus area there is really authentic and amazing places that are also just as welcoming. Don't get me wrong this is a cute nice spot in town but this place seems to be getting hyped up by mostly social media influencers and for its atmosphere. I am not into drinking alcohol anymore (all they have is Tsingtao last time I went way more Chinese beers than that in the world) or really that bojuee bar vibe... I guess I am more of a dive bar loud blues band person lol. I usually write long reviews but I rather keep this one simple. Dumplings good but nothing to write home about, the MC sandwich was tasty but again nothing mind blowing, above average to me. I guess I came into this place expecting authentic Chinese but it is just Asian inspire other than the dumplings and the salad which is a Taiwanese Dish but a more new one in recent years. I guess go here if you want that but don't expect authentic Taiwanese food like in Flushing or other authentic places you can find around SBU, NYC, Tampa/Orlando Florida, much more etc... give them support and your own verdict at the end of the day.
Oh biggest red flag of them all is at the time I went... no prices on the online menu... that is a meh. It wasn't cheap this place. I don't get that, it makes me want to go less I only really stumble here again b/c something new in this town and also looked good but not showing prices usually meaning you are gonna pay too much... they have a dedicated crowd good for them I guess it just isn't my vibe this place... wish them the best of...
Read moreMama Chan's is terrific in every way! We have dined here twice (once with and once without a reservation) and I anticipate we will be back frequently.
Upon walking into Mama Chan's, you are greeted as if you are family. Diana is warm, professional and personable. Since she is one of the owner's, you will see that she is involved in every aspect of running this lovely restaurant, which she does seamlessly!
While seated at the bar area, you quickly get to know Jack, the bartender. His drinks are incomparable and his personality is delightful. Diana, too, makes very delicious drinks. They both have you covered with very creative, as well as delicious drinks and they certainly deliver on the old standards as well! My husband has had his best martinis here! His green tea margaritas are scrumptious. Shout out to Jack for upping the game on those!
The food is delicious. We have almost made our way through their menu and each item is wonderful. Some items are more like tapas items with others being more filling so that it is possible to share a few items and also dig into a meal. Shout outs to their chicken sandwich which is double breaded and then fried for a very moist piece of boneless chicken with an incomparable crunch. So yummy! Their pork and veggie dumplings can be ordered several ways ( we tried fried and steamed) and the same goes for their fried rice and soups choices, which are a meal in themselves. The cold sesame noodles - terrific! So delicious! I could go on and on but everything we've had is truly amazing! The fact that Diana's mom comes in daily to make the fantastic, light and well filled dumplings and the two broths is a sweet story and makes for the delicious food!
Mama Chan's is a small restaurant, so reservations are a good idea on the weekends because you don't want to miss out on enjoying this restaurant. Go! You won't be sorry! Can't...
Read moreMama Chan’s in Northport is one of those rare gems that completely blows you away. I went there on a Friday night with some friends, and it was such an incredible experience that I woke up the next morning still thinking about the food and craving it all over again.
First off, the food is absolutely unreal. If you go (and you absolutely should), you must order the sesame chicken. It’s hands-down the best I’ve ever had—crispy, perfectly sauced, and so full of flavor. The pan-fried rice cakes are another standout; they’re tender with just the right amount of chewiness and loaded with savory goodness. The udon noodles are an absolute dream—perfectly cooked with a rich, delicious sauce that had us all fighting over the last bite. And don’t even get me started on the dumplings. They were perfection—crispy on the outside, juicy and flavorful on the inside. We couldn’t stop raving about them at the table.
As amazing as the food is, the staff is just as memorable. From the moment you walk in, they treat you like family. It’s not just about great service—it’s about how warm and genuine they are. They make you feel so at home that you almost forget you’re at a restaurant.
Mama Chan’s is the kind of place you’ll want to keep coming back to, and trust me, you’ll be planning your next visit before you even leave. Make sure to call ahead and reserve a table—this spot is not to be missed. I already can’t...
