Nicky's on the Bay — Restaurant in Town of Islip

As it gets later in the season its hit & miss! I took 6 people at dinner time to see live music and share the amazing mussels I have been enjoying. We a table upstairs. listening to live music outside having a great time. Then the food came 😞. When you order almost $40 for a 12 oysters you expect that they will be fresh ( on the water at a seafood restaurant) guess again. It looks like they were opend at lunch time. Deflated shriveled dried out & dead! And in front of me. I should have known the meal was going to be bad. When we ordered pretzels for the table hot pretzels with melted cheese. The pretzels with stale and the cheese was fake! We asked for a dozen little necks very small. That is not what we got! Looks like tops with cherries mixed in. If being disappointed three times! We take a final chance so one of the blue cheese mussels I have been raving about. Only to find out that they don't serve blue cheese mussels upstairs on the deck. :-(. Just when you think it can't get any worse. A Rowdy Bunch shows up and starts rearranging furniture. They must have been drunk before they showed up. Just when they got their first round they started to toast president stupid! I don't care who you vote for all your political view is. When I'm out with my family and friends trying to have having a nice meal on the water in the middle of summer. And I get a bunch of drunken Irish Yahoo screaming Semper Fi God loves Trump. And no one was there to keep the noise down. It was time for us all to leave. Thanks God! I have been to Nicky's several times this year I do not write a review every time. This is my second bad experience this summer. And the worst. The ownership should be aware of drunken patrons disturbing others trying to enjoy their night. Everyone is entitled to enjoy themselves but no one is entitled to ruin someone else's time. I will say they did exchange the oysters for new ones. But when I asked the server to do so she told me they would have to be inspected first by management and they would let me know whether or not I would get new ones. Homie don't play that! When you're a server in a seafood restaurant even if you don't eat seafood you should be educated on how it should look and be serve. No matter how bad Nicky's on the bay is it will always make money because of its location. It is such a beautiful location. It is unfortunate it is not open for brunch Friday Saturday and Sunday. Or even open during the winter breakfast and lunch I know I would go! And many others I know would go. Even Monday Night Football will be great on the water in the winter season when there's nothing to do and no one around it is a magnificent out there. If you don't mind taking a chance on whether or not your food will be good or bad but guaranteed your check will be very expensive...

We went yesterday afternoon for a late lunch. There were 6 adults, 2 kids and 1 10 month old. We knew that the first really nice warm sunny Sunday that the place would be busy and we were ok with that. We were given the option to sit outside and there would be over an hour wait or we could sit inside and be seated immediately. We choose to sit inside. The waitress Heather was very nice came and took our drink order. She questioned what a French Martini was. We told her and she was fine. Our drinks came to us staggered. About 15 mins later she came an took our order. Most of us order full meals but 2 of the adults ordered 4 appetizers for our meals. We explained what we wanted first. We also requested that the kids food be sent out first. So we asked for bread for the 10 month old to keep him busy and it took 3 or 4 times asking for her to bring it. We watched a table of 4 next to us with the same waitress get a huge basket of bread when we finally got it it was 2 pieces. The waitress never really come to ask about drinks we had to search her down. I know it was busy. I get it. I was in the business but she never came back. After an hour when we finally asked about our appetizers, she was shocked when we said we did not get them. We did have other tables food brought to our table but it was nothing that we ordered. At this time, I went to go talk to a manager. I did not get his name, but he was tall about 5 foot 11 inches, light colored hair and had on a blue and green horizontal stripped shirt. I asked him about our food and he said he would check. It still took about 15 more minutes but appetizers did come out. Still no kids food. We asked for everything else to come out right after. About 20 minutes after out meals came out. When the food came out, all the dirty dishes were still on the table. They cleared and served. The waitress did come back a couple of times to ask us if everything was ok. During the time that we were waiting for the food, the manager was reprimanding our waitress in front of the customers by the computer station. I understand she was overwhelmed but this should not have been done in the front of the house. Instead of reprimanding her, you could have come over to our table helped bus or take a drink order. We were just very disappointed with the whole experience. We went to Nickys a few times last season and enjoyed every minute. We have not had a good taste to the start of the season. When we received the bill we were hoping for some compensation. I mean we were seated at 1:45 and left at 5:00. The manager did not take off one drink or anything. Just very disappointed in what we experienced and not sure if we will...

The place and view are nice, when we got there didn't have to wait too long for a table but didn't have any shade so we asked our waitress to please move us to another one under the tent when there was any available, she was nice, tried to look for another table for us, there were like 2 tables available before we get one, but the host gave them to other people that were just getting to the restaurant, for this our waitress apologized and she got the next available for us. I have to mention we were 4 people and were having some appetizers and drinks at the first table we were seated, we were advised if we moved we had to cancel that and start from 0, totally fine with that. Then we moved to the other table... We asked for some drinks, our waitress brought them and asked us what we were gonna order to eat, we told her we just had some appetizers and we were gonna wait a little bit before we order something else but we were gonna be having drinks in the meantime, she told us "just letting you know that you need to order something to eat to keep the table" we said, ok, and we will, but in a little bit, we just ate something at the table we were before, she insisted that we needed to have food on our table the "whole time" we were there, which it sounded to me ridiculous, first time I hear that 🤷‍♀️, we asked her why nobody told us that when we were seating at the other table, we said we're not hungry yet, we want to have some drinks and then we'll order something, but it's ok, we'll order some appetizers till later, so we did, 2 more. When she brought the appetizers, she also brought with her a paper with the regulations of the restaurant, and AGAIN SHE INSISTED ON THAT, at this point we said we don't want anything else, thanks, and we left. Immediately went to the nearest restaurant FATFISH, and asked the host if we could seat, eat, and have drinks (as we always do wherever we go) I told her what the other restaurant told us, she said "that's crazy" as long as you eat something, then you can stay drinking as long as you want, so we did, ate and drank for about 5 hours and had so much fun. So no, we're not going back to...
