The best meal I’ve ever had from a restaurant! I’m so glad I came here to eat dinner on March 18 - to celebrate my dad’s birthday. The staff were kind and accommodating, the food spectacular, and the view phenomenal.
March 2022: We started with the Lightly Fried Calamari which was not the best I’ve ever had. It was in strips, kind of like french fries, and topped with a lemon cream sauce. This dish could be worked on considering by the time we received the dish, the fried calamari became soggy due to the lemon drizzled on the top. We also got the Steamed PEI Mussels which had some sort of sausage for flavor with tomato and garlic. Still just okay food at this point.
For mains, we got the Organic Herb Roasted Chicken Cooked Under A Brick, Porcini Crusted Sea Bass Filet, and Grilled Center Cut Filet Mignon. The chicken is probably one of the best chicken I’ve ever had - it was soft, moist, and flavorful. The skin was still crispy while the white meat was extremely tender. Similarly, the filet mignon was super soft like butter. The mashed potatoes it came with were creamy and well seasoned. The fish was also phenomenal. The porcini paired very well with the flavor of the sea bass, although the color was a little mucky.
For dessert, since it was dad’s birthday we got the Warm Cinnamon Donuts and Lakehouse Black Magic. What was funny was that the candle was glued to the plate of the donuts rather than placed in the cake! But the donuts were amazing - warm and fluffy! It came with a fruit jam and a vanilla cream sauce. We preferred the cream sauce rather than the jam since the jam was a bit on the sour side. The cake was multiple layers of chocolate in mouse and cake form. It was like death by chocolate! My parents thought it was too sweet, but I really like it!
I would definitely come back here to try more of the menu! I’ll give a 5 stars and basically ignore the appetizer section because the quality of the main courses made up for that.
Sep 2022: came back for my bday! And had another wonderful time dining! This time we got the bread (fyi don’t get the bread it’s hard and chewy). My recommendation is to not use a very sturdy and hard crust for bread because it was TOUGH! Otherwise everything else tasted phenomenal! I do have to say, the pork chop was surprisingly the softest and moistest pork I’ve...
Read moreOur experience was wonderful! We had the Nova appetizer which was exceptionally crafted! The Nova lox arrived nestled on a very crispy potato, almost like a cross between a hash brown and a super crispy onion ring! Had I not asked, I would have left there swearing it was an onion ring! It was dressed with a light horseradish cremé and sprinkled with red onion and capers. Hands down, forks up the best nova appetizer I've had to date. Coming from a Jewish girl, trust me compliments don't get any better than that when it comes to lox! My meal, the scallops, was a very generous portion. They were cooked perfectly, which as any cook knows is not an easy task. They were on a bed soft, fluffy farro, with artichoke hearts and other veggies, almost like a ragout! They were not lost in all the rich flavors of the farro and vegetable mix, they complimented each other. My dining partner had the Halibut. I tasted just enough to learn it was a flakey and moist, everything a piece of fish should be. We finished our meal with a coffee for him, an espresso for me, and some fresh sorbet. Raspberry flavored which had little bits of raspberries and I'm almost positive blueberries! And the mango, which was so creamy and refreshing, mixed together they were even more enjoyable and colorfully pleasing to they eyes. The dessert was on the house because they forgot our second appetizer. We ordered the fresh oysters. I'm going to guess they would have been as enjoyable as the rest of the meal, but we will not know until we return and order them! The restaurant itself was beautiful and had it been a clear not rainy evening I imagine the sunset would have been beautiful from our cozy table. We watched a couple get engaged, and the restaurant burst into applause! Kate our waitress was attentive and expedited our meal with ease, minus forgetting the oysters! We will definitely revisit this establishment and I can confidently say you should...
Read moreLiked all my experiences at the old location, absolutely love the new location. Right on the water with a huge outdoor space. Mosquitoes went wild on us, so definitely bring bug spray with you or come lathered up if you intend to sit outdoors.
Came here to celebrate a family birthday. Food was phenomenal for the most part. We ordered a ton of the grilled oyster special - the waiter told us we would want to order more once we tried it, and we did. As soon as we each tasted them, we placed another order immediately. We tried almost everything on the menu as a party of 7. And we ordered one of EACH dessert. No regrets. I ordered the clam chowder as my entree since I knew I wouldn't be totally hungry once the dinner course came, and it was sub par. I can't pin point what was lacking, but I had a few others taste it and they agreed. We ordered the side of fries - truffley and delicious. We also got the grits and mashed potatoes - highly recommend. The raw bar menu is always a good call, too, always fresh.
Two members of our party ordered the duck entree - this is a tried and true menu item that at least 2 people in my family always order for dinner. Both came out well done when medium rare was the order. They took them back and took about 25min to bring out the correctly cooked items. We over did it on appetizers, so my brother and sister had a lot to nibble on while they waited, but it seemed like a long time to wait for MR duck that was on rush.
We moved inside for dessert since we were getting eaten alive by mosquitoes. We will certainly be back. We usually make Fat Fish in Bay Shore a regular for family celebrations of all sorts, and I think we all agreed that the new Lakehouse is probably going to rule over Fat Fish for the time being. Similar offerings, but better overall experience at The Lakehouse. Definitely check it out, especially if you've been to the old location but...
