My wife and I were very excited to celebrate our anniversary here - it had just opened up. The website is slick with Resy integration (making reservations seamless).
The service is top-notch. We were greeted right away and were seated immediately. Everyone who worked there was pleasant, excited, and knowledgeable. They even gave us complementary Prosecco for our anniversary!
The cocktails and food were amazing!!! We split some appetizers, salad, and entrees. We knew we were in for a treat when the Caesar salad arrived - the dressing was unique. I've never had anything like that before; the flavor was more sophisticated than any other Caesar salad I've had.
We had the seafood crudo for an appetizer. The pairing of apricot with the fish was unique, but the star of the plate was the individual lime juice vesicles. There were a number of these scattered throughout the plate, and every time I was fortunate enough to get one it POPPED in my mouth. It's like Pop Rocks for adults. Not only did they enhance the mouthfeel, but the contrasting flavors coalesced perfectly.
We split the half chicken poulet for the main course. Flavor was great and it was so tender. We had no trouble getting it off the bone with forks. And the sauce was splendid.
We split the house-made funnel cake, too (because I'm a sucker for nostalgia). It was an interesting take on the carnival food. The "funnels" were spaghetti-sized and (much like the adult Pop Rocks) made me feel sophisticated.
The presentation was incredible, the food great, and prices are lower than I would have expected for the atmosphere, food, and service.
We'll definitely be back! I'd love to try everything on the menu. At least twice.
I don't know if everyone else there had reservations, too, but it was pretty crowded and I'd recommend...
Read moreIt’s always great to see a nice dining option out this way and was excited to visit. Reservations were easy and we were seated within minutes of our arrival. The decor and vibe are great with a nice range of patrons. After a slow-ish start to water and drinks, we settled on sharing their Grist salad, seafood ala plancha, and the everyday but Sunday sauce. The salad was underdressed and lacked acidity, but was still decent due to the excellence of all of the individual ingredients. The seafood was just meh. The prawns were great but the rest was underwhelming, lacking flavor or depth. The pasta was pretty damn good. The sauce was rich, and the pork and meatball was spot on. All of the portions were great for sharing and we finished the meal full. The service overall was friendly and the dishes were paced well. I had to ask for a second glass of wine. I generally don’t care about using the same plate for the entire meal, but the prawn heads ended up on our plates and were not cleared before the pasta arrived. We were given fresh tongs for all of the serving, so I was a little surprised by this. Overall we had a nice evening. The menu was great and we do look forward to...
Read moreA Truly Exceptional Experience at Grist
Grist was one of the most anticipated openings in the area—and it still managed to blow us away. The food was beyond anything we expected. Every dish on the menu is so thoughtfully curated and packed with flavor. You can tell this is a chef-driven experience where every detail matters.
I grew up in HFL, we used to live in D.C. (where good food is not hard to come by), and we now live in Texas. My husband—who is not easy to impress—turned to me and said, “That was the best meal we’ve ever had in Upstate New York. Ever.” And I agree.
The concept is rooted in tapas—everything is made to be shared, and the pricing reflects that. Each plate is designed to bring people together, and it absolutely works. The atmosphere is cozy, elevated, and effortlessly refined.
Knowing that a brother and sister brought the old mill back to life in this way makes it even more special. Grist is something truly unique for Honeoye Falls, and honestly, for all of Rochester, New York.
10/10 food, atmosphere, and service. We’ll be back when in town...
