Giovanni's Italian Deli — Restaurant in Town of North Castle

Extremely disappointing experience at Giovanni’s Italian Deli in North White Plains.

First off, the place was well over 100 degrees inside — unbelievably uncomfortable. There was no ventilation, no fan, nothing. Just standing in heat while waiting… and waiting. The service was painfully slow, and no one seemed in a rush to help move things along.

I asked for a sandwich on ciabatta, and the employee responded, “Ciabatta, wedge — same thing.” Sorry, but any Italian — or anyone even remotely familiar with Italian food — knows that’s absolutely not true. It’s not just a different bread, it’s a different experience entirely.

To top it off, there were no prices listed anywhere on the menu board. I was shocked to be charged $20 for a mediocre sandwich with zero flavor. Not toasted, not seasoned, not balanced. Just bland. Let’s not forget they used a microwave to heat up the cutlets… really fresh.

I came to Giovanni’s Italian Deli after seeing all the hype on social media and hearing Joe Rogan rave about it, but honestly, I left wondering what the hype was about.

We walked in around 5:30 PM on a Saturday (they close at 6), and it was obvious they had already wrapped up for the day. The staff looked annoyed that we even walked in, and the energy was far from welcoming. They were out of rolls, so we had to get our sandwiches on wedges instead.

We ordered the Joe Rogan, the Bronx Godfather, and a meatball parm for my son. The sandwiches were messy and just okay, nothing memorable flavor-wise. Definitely not worth the $60 we paid for three sandwiches. There are plenty of other local spots with better-tasting food and much friendlier service.

The deli itself is also rundown. I used to visit when it was Tommy’s, and somehow it looks worse now. Bottom line: overhyped, overpriced, and...

The food is outstanding, this is homemade without the fuss and the hassle and the mess. I brought home eggplant, Parm, chicken, Parm, and meatball Parm with broccoli Rob dishes +2 loaves of their excellent bread. What Giovanni does out of a small deli is amazing. He treats his his customers like family, and wants you to test and taste everything in the store. This man is truly engaged and he loves what he does and loves to speak and talk and strike up conversations with all of his customers. His staff is friendly, efficient and knowledgeable.Everything is fresh. There are no freezers in the deli. He doesn’t freeze anything and everything is made fresh that day. This place has to be on your must do bucket list for fantastic and I mean fantastic...
