BUYER BEWARE! NEVER GO TO THIS RESTAURANT!
As others have mentioned, you get charged more than the prices on the menu. It is the restaurant's responsibility to inform the patron of the price and normally that is done with the menu. If the menu prices are wrong, then the staff needs to tell the patron. The price factors into the patron's decision on what to eat and whether they eat it with you and violating that trust is a huge mistake.
Basically they can make up whatever prices they want, but lying about the prices by providing outdated menus and then omitting the truth about the prices IS lying to the customer.
Interestingly, after my wife and I were discussing the bill and the pricing, we heard the group the next table over who were equally shocked by the prices they were charged and upset that the restaurant didn't tell them about the prices. Frankly the price difference was appalling, we were charged nearly 50% more than the prices on the menu.
My wife and I STRONGLY urge anyone considering visiting this restaurant to find an HONEST business that isn't trying to scam the customer. There are far better restaurants and even better Indian restaurants than this one, go anywhere else...
Read moreI went in for takeout order a few weeks ago, and enjoyed a cocktail at the really nice bar. Comfortable seats - TV for news or short videos, and good service. The food eaten at home was excellent.
Went with my wife to the restaurant Friday nite. We have been fans of Indian food for over 30 years. One of our favorites in the area closed recently. Now we have a new "go-to".
For appetizer, we had the Malabar shrimp, spicy. Delicious along with the papadum and sauces. We ordered onion chutney ala carte - served elsewhere on the house with papadum.
I love vegetable entrees and these two were excellent: vegetable madras* and bhindi masala. * for spicy and the bhindi/okra is now one of my favorites. My wife had her usual chicken tikka masala, very spicy. It measured up.
Service was great, and staff from kitchen serves the entrees with pride. We got many dishes packed for leftovers to go. Secret is ... that is best part: yum Okra with deep tangy sauce, spicy at home. Oh yeah, all with lots of basmati rice and garlic naan.
Recommended for all. It is renovated since earlier visits 10 years ago. very...
Read moreEasily the finest Indian restaurant in Durham, and arguably the best in the Triangle, Sitar India Palace is located in the Regency Plaza strip-mall off Shannon Road, near 15-501 (tel. 490-1326). With one important exception (discussed below), this restaurant has been consistently good for some years, and recently has gotten even better. It's also been expanded and renovated, and now has two attractively furnished rooms so there's usually plenty of room. Prices are relatively modest, especially given the quality. The buffet is an exceptional bargain, around $15 for a broad range of delicacies, including wonderful desserts. Be forewarned, though, that there is an important exception to this restaurant's quality: the Tandoori-oven cooked meats are often served overcooked and dry. This occurs even when I warn against it. Oh well, at least the non-Tandoori items...
