Went for the first time just to grab drinks. OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive for everything on the menu. There is no host, just seat yourself. Want a drink? Go to the bar and grab it yourself. Their "best" drinks are premade, and $18. A fact you would learn after you ordered the drink, because the menu doesn't have prices. The classic tip screen is turned around to you, and you're met with a 25% option coming first, followed by a 20% and a 15%. Even 15% comes to over $1 which is insane. I was handed a drink out of a 7-11 Slurpee machine, complete with a plastic cup and me grabbing the straw myself. If I was to order food I would be doing it from a QR code rather than having a waiter. The $39 lobster roll, $26 chicken caesar salad, and shrimp cocktail with a price tag of $4 a shrimp doesn't match this odd, fast-casual experience they've created.
So I grab my drink (which is very average), and try to find a table that has been cleaned. The restaurant is maybe 20% full, yet 80% of the tables have plates and food on them left from previous tables. I go sit down at a picnic style table, surrounded by these filthy ones, and the bench tips up from the opposite end like a seesaw because it's made out of the lightest, cheapest PVC. The live music wasn't bad, but was egregiously loud and I went home with my throat sore from shouting at who I was with. Once another group left we moved to a firepit table, which was also almost knocked over by my friend because it too was made out of PVC and wobbly to the point that it would move if you just placed a drink on it. I noticed that the TV in the indoor area was on the Verizon Fios sleep mode where it just cycles through still images of the recently added to DVR things. It was never turned off for the 2 hours that I was there.
So, what exactly are you paying for when you go here? Beats me. There's basically no service, drink and food (based on other reviews) is average/poor, and the quality and ambiance of the restaurant itself is terrible!
Just go sit on the beach and bring...
Read moreWhat a total disappointment. Went twice to Sunset Club. The first time we got a table. No service at all. You have to scan a QR code to order and go to the bar to get a drink. The wonderful Beach Bar Restaurant has been turned into a concession. The second time we went - no tables were available. The manager verified that. You Have to stalk a table that looks like they might be done. I do not want to hover over a table.. I do not want anyone hovering over me! No hostess - no help. This is a disgrace . The firepit tables take up alot of room and are not suitable for a dinner. What was a fun summer RESTAURANT with excellent service and tasty food has been turned into a lousy concession. How can you not have help to seat people when crowded?? Thank you Town of Oyster Bay for ruining a great summer spot. BTW we have lived here in Glen Head for 38 years. We have been patronizing Tappen Beach restaurants for years. When it was under Singh it was good and had service. Carlyle was awful but was only 1 year and they had service. Blu Iguana was great and evolved into Beach Bar which was a summer party.. Live music every night. You could not ask for more. Please do not renew this contract.. this place...
Read moreOh man this place made me REALLY miss BEACH BAR. Self-seating and no waiters creates a chaotic and overcrowded environment. Many people had no idea what to do while there. Food was ok at best. Portions were MUCH smaller than Beach Bar and more expensive. Much smaller menu as well. Physical menu and phone menu (had to order no matter what on phone) had different prices with phone menu being more expensive than what was shown on physical menu. Only the ice cream is worth going back for.
Furniture was wobbly as someone at my table fell of the bench. No staff knew about it cause again, no waiters.
Wanted to ask for more ketchup but since no waiters that was not really possible. No one checks to see how your meal is going. Water is self-serve. What's the point in paying for a tip at that point?
Can't order drinks with your meal or during your meal, you have to go to the bar and wait while your food gets cold.
Pretzels were awful, Beach Bar had AMAZING pretzels. Beach Bar had a bigger menu, bigger portions, was great for kids, and their food was delicious. We miss our waiter from there too.
Beach Bar was better in every way. Much more pleasant and relaxing too. Please BRING BACK...
