Chakara offers an ambient dining experience with excellent waiting staff and terrific food. Everything here is good, including the asian-fusion entrees that include superbly done Thai, Japanese, and Chinese dishes.
But what makes Chakara truly stand out are its specialty sushi rolls – Chakara offers some of the freshest, best prepared sushi in Rochester, with sublime pairings of flavorful ingredients, and easily tops out as the best sushi option in the suburbs of Fairport and Perinton. It outshines competitors like Taisho Bistro in Henrietta's business district and other parts of the city.
Of particular note are the Honey Sandwich roll which is a delightful combination of crunch, sweetness, and flavor; the Fire House roll with its simple but delightful combination of crunchy shrimp tempura and spicy tuna; and more exotic rolls like the Battera roll which fuses eel and tuna with a dash of sweet eel sauce and a hint of spicy mayo.
If you're a fan of jalapeño in your sushi and extra sizzle, you've come to the right place. The Caterpillar roll, the Spicy Girl roll, and the Hot Girl roll all live up to their names and offer intriguing combinations of flavor and heat.
If you're like me and revel in gentler and sweeter flavor profiles with a hint of crunch, they've got you covered with options like the Fall in Love roll, the Sweetie roll, and the First Kiss roll. But to be fair, there's a lot to fall in love with here, and it warrants a few take-out trips to fully explore the menu and see what tingles your taste buds.
Portions are hearty and the amount of meat in the entrees is substantial. Nothing here feels like they are cutting corners and you get your money's worth.
In addition, there's a variety of interesting noodle options and the ability to piece together your own unique entree with a combination of rice, noodles, and prepared meat (chicken, beef, and shrimp). They even offer spinach noodles and gluten free options.
If it isn't evident, I could shower Chakara with praise for paragraph after paragraph, so if you have any doubts about trying a new place (and maybe even making it a staple of your eat-out habits), be rest assured that your time and money won't ever be wasted here.
Bon appétit and itadakimasu いただきます – happy eating!
P.S. don't forget to try the deep fried ice cream...
Read moreI have driven past this place hundreds of time and for some reason never stopped in. Boy, am I kicking myself now.
I went with 3 other folks and we like to try a lot of things when we go to a place the first time. We had three apps; shrimp shumai, spicy garlic boneless wings, and spicy wontons. Each was portioned well and delicious. Not too spicy for the people with me that don't like a lot of heat, but just enough to satisfy someone who likes it hot.
I tried the dan dan noodles and a Caterpillar roll. Both were very good, and again a good amount of food. I really liked that there were options for the noodles too. I went with udon. Other entrées were Kaeng Phet (red curry sauce) over noodles, another noodle dish that was fairly spicy and served with a bunch of protein and veggies. The last person just ordered two different specialty rolls, and both were unique and flavorful.
This place isn't cheap, but it can be if you don't order a ton like we did. Had a good Sake selection too. Lastly, our server was amazing. She was pleasant and attentive and offered great suggestions. It's not a big place, but that's part of the charm. Totally going to be making this place a regular part of the rotation since it's like 5 minutes...
Read moreMy wife said it was the worst food she has ever had from a restaurant and I agree. We had takeout and paid full menu prices with a mandatory 15% gratuity. We both got Pad Thai, a dish I've had dozens of times at dozens of restaurants, and it was just sad. Dry, bright orange noodles with some flavorless chicken bits in mine and tofu for my wife. She said the tofu tasted and felt like a piece of sponge. I didn't believe her, so I tried it, and yeah it was that bad. Enough sauce to adequately flavor the noodles would have been a good start. I'm shocked when looking at all the reviews of diners who sat in the restaurant and I'm wondering if they would have served such poor food to me in person. Honestly, I would have sent it back, which is something I've never done. Reading the "about" tab on their website, I don't feel the ..."passion to create outstanding food..." was well represented in what they gave me. "Each dish is distinctive and handcrafted my master chefs..." is also really hard to believe. If the alleged master chef ever reads this, I would challenge them to serve the takeout version of their Pad Thai to another chef and see if they're still...
