MOMO GARDEN — Restaurant in Town of Poughkeepsie

This place is darling and what a gem to add to the Poughkeepsie food scene (which has been overrun lately by burgers and wings). Nestled in the 44 plaza this unassuming Nepalese restaurant offers cuisine like samosas, Thalli, and, of course, Momo's for which the restaurant is named. Upon entering we were greeted warmly by Moises who sat us at a table for our date night and then presented with a full but not overwhelming menu. Every item made me want to know more and ask about flavors, textures, and origins. My wife was delighted that about half the menu were vegetarian or had an option for it. We settled on a sizzling momo dumpling appetizer and thalli with a size of naan for our entree. About 15 minutes later we could hear sizzling and turning our heads appeared Moises carrying a plate of vegetable dumplings. They were scrumptious. The flavors were rich and complex in spices but also delicate and balanced (it was not spicy as in hot). Next came the Thalli which neither of us ever had. This time the food was presented in a large round platter with four small bowls containing chicken (my option but lamb and vegetables are also available) accompanied by mushrooms, the third was a lentil mash, the fourth a small donut hole with a warm honey sauce, and these were arranged in a crescent around a mound of basmati rice on a plate with sliced potato, mango chutney, and sautéed spinach. My wife and I barely spoke the rest of the meal because we were so engrossed in the flavors of our dinners We cannot wait to return. Namaste...

We were at the Momo Garden for a baby shower today. It was our first visit, but we’ll definitely be going back! The restaurant was very clean, the staff very friendly and the service was very good. Never having had Nepalese food, we really didn’t know what to expect. Our table ordered the butter chicken, paneer and the chicken fried rice. Before the food arrived, wafer thin bread was put on the table with two dipping sauces, then came four different kinds of delicious dumplings! We shared the food all around along with a big bowl of white rice for the table. Everything was delicious! I can’t say I had a favorite as it was all so good! Lovely new Nepal restaurant newly renovated, spotless located route 44 Plaza next to Stop & Shop. A little gem for sure! Lovely staff/owners. Really care about your experience. Nice bar stocked quality liquors/wines. Most importantly food delicious. Waiter gladly explain variety foods on menu. Should have tried sampler 1st visit, will have to do that as many foods unique. Enjoyed as appetizer Steamed chicken Momo. Absolutely delicious. Steaming hot cooked to perfection. Followed by lamb curry, lamb Biryani & Naan. Everything delicious & fresh.
