went here after the lake george oktoberfest was so disappointed we ordered the saurbraten and it was like eating shoe leather saurbraten is suppose to be tender enough to break apart with your fork this meat was clearly processed not the real meat we are used to having when we get saurbraten we were informed by our waitress that it was precooked to add insult to injury while our waitress was very nice and accomodating the witch from hell that she went to for help trying to find out what she could do to help us was extremely rude so much so that i actually asked our waitress if she kept her own tips or if they get pooled as i did not want that other woman getting any of it even though i told her it was ok i wanted to keep mine she pulled it away from me saying she wanted to make it right and only proceeded to make matters worse i had only had one piece of meat and they said they would charge me for the soup and side that was suppose to come with the meal the fact that we were that upset with our food they shouldve taken off the entire bill to keep good customer relations but they wanted to split hairs like that i was so upset that i even returned the souvenir mug that i paid 3.50 extra for with a beer fill up which was only 15 ounces instead of the regular 16 oz it just left such a bad taste in my mouth that i couldnt bring myself to have there mug they had run out of saurbraten which they told us the previous day due to the large volume of crowds coming from the oktoberfest yet they were able to have it for us today so clearly it was inferior meat that they thought they could pass off as authentic saurbraten which is impossible as saurbraten has to marinate for a few days coming from german stock i found it very offensive that they would try to pass this off as saurbraten as we know full well how saurbraten is suppose to taste and how it is suppose to look and the tender texture it is suppose to have with a slightly crispy outside. heidelberg has lost 2 customers for sure possibly more with our families and friends when we tell them about our horrible experience here my sister got charged more than me because she ate a bit more of it than i did so she wanted the rest of what she didnt finish back and the red cabbage that goes with it and this woman actually said youve got to be kidding we are customers you dont talk to customers like that ever will never return here again the pumpernickel is a MUCH better choice they are also decorated in real german style and i believe they also play german oompah music while you eat and they dress in the dirndls and lederhosen they also have a huge cucoo clock this place offers...
Read moreOur family visited from out of town. In fact, we were all in from different states. We all decided to meet for dinner at Heidelberg. Upon walking in, we were greeted by a man, which by looking at their fb page, I now know was the owner. He was less than welcoming. A few of us came a bit before our reservation time. We intended to have a drink prior to the rest of the family getting there. As we told the man our plans, he did not seem to like the idea. He wanted to seat us right away. We proceeded to the bar. He walked over several times. We asked to have a table inside once the rest of our party got there. It was raining and a bit chilly outside. This man went on and on about out how he has to keep tables open inside for people that walk in and how reservations have been booked and filled since the day prior (only one other party came in the entire time we were there). Keep in mind, we had a reservation! We were so stunned by his demeanor, we would have left. However, the other part of our party was enroute and we are not familiar with the area to find a new restaurant so quickly. I will say the bartender and our server were quite lovely. The food was good. But, this man (the owner) left such a bad impression. I was in the restaurant business for years and am astonished by the complete lack of customer service he carried. I'm quite sure there will be some sort of snarky reply to this review, just as the prior reviews and replies I've read. However, the customer service or lack of really needs to be addressed here. Otherwise, you will not have return customers. My family will not be back and this restaurant is lucky to have made the hundreds of dollars we spent there!
*Editing to add a reply to the snarky comment I predicted from the owner. We did not have a reservation for outside. We simply had a reservation! The restaurant was not busy. As I stated in the above, ONE table came in the entire time we were there. You, sir, need to work on your demeanor! It's very off putting and quite...
Read moreI heard a lot about the Hydelburg throughout the years . I am of German ,Dutch and Scandinavian decent .I am known for authentic German cooking .My husband is a chef of 40 years. We went on 8/25 for my birthday . I have never been so disappointed in restaurant . There was nothing complimentary I could say about it .I am not a beer drinker that looked good ,and maybee if I drank several the food would taste better. I ordered what what amounted to a pork short rib .witch was suppose to be prepared to resemble the German pork knuckle .Not by far ! Pic included . I got a shank on a plate with a type of gravy and three sprigs of lettuce on a plate for 31 dollars and a potatoes pancake they called it. The meat was most likely stuck in the smoker and liquid smoke flavor added to the meat .it hurt eating it .the so called potatoes pancake cake was thin it had a shiny appearance. So thin no taste or potatoes consistency soggy in the middle. I make them all the time .never would I serve that to my family. My son got a side of German potatoes salad .they need to stop calling it that.it was cubed potatoes with a vinegar and super drizzle some wheres with a few small pieces of bacon .again not at all what would be served at home let alone charging for it . There mock chicken cordon blue snitzel again thin .flimsy no taste chicken was not cooked right or a proper texture . Fry's served with it soggy ,mushy , taste like they attempted to make the vinegar Fry's like I do often . They should not be mushy. The cook dose not have the skills on texture . All in all it was real scheiBe "sounds like shizer" I let the waitress no we were displeased she smiled in my face dismissed me and said Im so glad you enjoyed. I hope this is not her life long career. Will never go back , would never recommended .there is a new German American restaurant just a mile and a half up the road . I hear very good about . Price , portions , quality of food , staff attentiveness is all...
