I don't know if this place has recently changed ownership, or just overhauled their business model. But my recent visit left me shocked.
Until recently, the big cheese has been a go-to for previously owned and vintage clothing, as well as a well curated selection of cheese and other Delectables.
Imagine my surprise, when visiting recently and discovering that the familiar clutter of clothing was gone, and that the business was now offering a selection of hot dishes and sandwiches.
To be fair, The baklava looked delicious. The staff was friendly and courteous. I did not simple any of their dishes while I was there, because I had it only stopped in to browse their vintage clothes.
Clearly that didn't work out.
I checked their website, and it states that they were closed for renovations. I can only assume they were we're referring to the transition in business models.
I'm hopeful that in coming days their website will be updated to reflect their new offerings, and maybe a brief explanation of the recent changes.
Overall, it looks like the new business it's going to be an asset to the rosendale community, but I think they need to work on their communication and marketing a bit to re-establish themselves with the...
Read moreWhile I can't exactly speak honestly about the food at The Big Cheese (we bought a bag of Tate's chocolate chip cookies which are always excellent), the "cappuccino" was not drinkable. When we ordered she made a weird face. When I asked if they could make it (it's on the menu) she said they didn't have the right pods, but she had used cold brew and others seemed to like it. We said "okay." Then she asked if we wanted regular milk. We said "sure." The machine fired up and sounded like it would be great. She handed us the cups and said "we're having a problem with the frother." $17 later, we left with our hot coffee and bag of Tate's. Bottom line: Do not get your coffee here! Not sure what kind of milk that was, but cappuccino was the color of dark mud. If we hadn't already been in our car we would have given it back. The place was chaotic with some standing in line to pay for clothing while others were waiting on food. ??? On another note, The Burger Bar down the road was...
Read moreCute place in a great town. We walked in, ordered food and paid $40 for it. 15 other people ordered after us. We waited 50 minutes for the food to arrive. The person at the front desk forgot about our order and others before us. Food was being served out of order it seems. Orders were disorganized and not first come first served. Instead of helping the kitchen the front desk kept taking orders. BIG NONO!
At the 50 minutes mark the front desk person started helping prepping the food without gloves. We could see it clearly. At that point we left. Bad service waiting 50 minutes and bad hygiene. Wouldn't recommend. I feel sorry for the food prepping staff. Front desk should have done better...
