M.J. Dowling's — Restaurant in Town of Southampton

Terrible experience with MJD. We were visiting friends and stopped to try this restaurant. Our server was friendly but forgot what we asked for several times. Had to ask other employees for sides that we didn't get and more refills that we never got. We ordered 2 steaks in our group. The ribeye was delicious while the filet was inedible. It had a funny smell and taste. We own restaurants, so we tried not to complain, but there was something definitely wrong with this meat. The server took the plate away and said he would speak to the owner. He came back and told us that they wouldn't make another one, nor would they remove it from the bill. If we wanted, we could choose something else on the menu. The server was apologetic, but the owner didn't want to speak with us. When you pay $70 for a meal, you should get what you paid for, not replace it with a $15 order of wings. I'm just disappointed in this restaurant and its crew. went here on a mistaken recommendation. the food is horrible. sauerbraten "special" = cheap meat overcooked days earlier then reheated in a microwave; tougher than a pitbull raised on the mean streets, drier than a 7 year drought. With a dollop of (mediocre at best) jar gravy and red cabbage also out of an industrial container. the price? only $35. this is after the season, on a tuesday, presumably for locals.. 😣 One might think the drinks would a good deal ( ie get buzzed enough to eat the food) but a glass of house red is $15 (Alamos Malbec- budget supermarket wine, c'mon!). someone who looked to be FoH mgr does his best to ignore all of the patrons. 4 ppl spent over $200 for exceptionally bad food + 1 round of rack drinks. This place is not worth it. The food wasn’t great and one of the waitresses was very nasty had a very bad attitude not professional at all. I was there for a Christmas dinner with co workers we all said we’re paying for our bills separate she caught an attitude and said that we have to figure it out ourselves and let her know.
