We recently dined at Waypoint in Southold, New York, and our experience was a mix of highs and lows. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating options. While the inside dining room exuded a cozy and sophisticated vibe, we were seated under the tent outside â an hour after our reservation time. Unfortunately, the outdoor atmosphere felt a bit lacking compared to the indoor area. The noise level was quite high, with several large parties celebrating birthdays, creating an ambiance more reminiscent of a lively wedding reception than a tranquil dining experience. The service experience was a tale of two extremes. While waiting for drinks at the outdoor seating area, I couldn't help but feel disappointed. It took an uncomfortably long time for most of our drinks to arrive, and to make matters worse, one of the drinks never even made it to us. The lackluster start did not bode well for the evening. However, our server during dinner service was a saving grace. Attentive and friendly, she made up for the earlier mishap and provided a seamless dining experience. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the food. Waypoint delivered on the promise of great flavors and impressive presentation. The menu offered a variety of options, catering to different tastes and everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. While the atmosphere and service had their shortcomings, the food certainly left a positive impression. I would exercise caution when considering Waypoint for a busy weekend night. The noise and bustling atmosphere created by large parties celebrating special occasions might not be conducive to a relaxed dining experience. Instead, I would recommend visiting on a quieter weeknight, when you're more likely to enjoy the cuisine and attentive service that this establishment has to offer. In conclusion, my experience at Waypoint in Southold, New York, was a mixed bag. While the outdoor ambiance and initial service left something to be desired, the food and dinner service redeemed the evening to a significant extent. If you're in the mood for a delicious meal in a beautiful setting, it might be worth a visit on a less busy night for a more...
Read moreHIGHLY DISAPPOINTED We had an AWFUL experience here. Itâs expensive (which was fine) but not of value. When the check came, we gave 2 credit cards to split the bill with our friends. ONE credit card didnât come back. The waitress wasnât around after 10 minutes (it was very busy) so we asked for help from another server. He got the waitress who was mortified and she went to look for the card. Our group of 4, we traced the path and looked around as well. After 15 more minutes , she let us know she was still looking (alone). The manager was strolling about-NEVER came over/looked for the card. After another 10 minutes, I approached him and he said âthis happens all the time. I just found a card. Iâll check it and let you knowâ. 15 more minutes later, he was still strolling about and i asked him the status. He said it was someone elseâs card and told me not to worry. I explained I was worried and he walked away. No apology, no assistance -just an abrupt departure. We got up to leave. Our friends approached the owner (theyâre regulars) and suddenly the manager came over (itâs his father) and talked to us. He said he would call us (but didnât have our contact info). I explained we leave hours away and returning was challenging. He said that wasnât his problem. We called the credit card company and paid to have another card expedited. The next day the restaurant left a message saying they had the card and we had to pick it up. A nearly $600 dinner for 4 (3 drinks and 2 desserts, 3 apps and 3 entrees) was nice but when plates are handed across the table and thereâs no utensils I donât see value in the experience. There is a nice view but I highly suggest finding another restaurant to have a meal...
Read moreMy wife and I had dinner at the Waypoint last Thursday night. Besides being a perfect night for eating outdoors, the location of Waypoint is serene. Just by the shore with boat slips for their customers and a small canal running from east to west with a sandbar just beyond the canal invited you to just sit on the sofas and sip a cocktail. So, what about the food. Fabulous!!! We started with a dozen little neck clams, that were as fresh and chilled as could be, and the charred octopus was perfect, just the right tenderness.( good sized portion ). Next we shared the Sapori di Tartufi (black truffle, fresh prawns, porcini mushrooms, Parmigiano Reggiano cream sauce over pappardelle pasta). It was just right (loosen your belt). We also shared the Chilean Seabass pan-seared, with little neck clams, mussels, trumpet mushrooms, fresh ginger, sherry wine sauce. Cooked exactly the way I like it. Dessert...cannoli's , a sponge cake with a pistachio nut crunch bottom and ricotta filling( was light and rich with flavor). Since it was our anniversary they brought out a slice of super rich chocolate cake on a dish with "Happy Anniversary" in chocolate syrup.
John, our waiter, was great, not over bearing but keeping and eye on us. The owners..Yvonne and Andre were very accommodating. The place was full, the whole night (Thursday) but was not overly noisy, probably since the sides of the awning were open.
We...
