TL;DR: Food, service, and atmosphere alike were a mixed experience. Biggest gluten free menu in the immediate area. The wings were some of the best I've had anywhere
Background: The restaurant was at most half full and just about everyone there already had their food. Our group of 4 adults and 3 kids probably wouldn't have picked the venue, having to explain to my kids why they aren't allowed to say "bastard," but they have one of the most extensive gluten free menus in the immediate area, especially for a casual restaurant.
The atmosphere: The covered "outdoor" area was warm and the tables with built-in fire pits were nice and comfortable despite the 38 degree temps that night. We chose to sit inside since we wanted to keep kids away from the fires. The inside was also cozy, warm, and decorated for the upcoming holidays on our side of the restaurant while the other side was a more upscale sports bar. It was a little too loud for conversation in a group but at least the 90s/00s rock music was right in our wheelhouse.
The service: The lady working the food order station was not the most friendly, accommodating, or attentive. She was a bit snippy, seemed frustrated when we had dietary questions, and we had to repeat our order several times for the 3 items we ordered. She was apologetic when the POS was being slow. The bartender was more interested in watching the football game behind him than serving me. When he finally did, I ordered my beer by name to make sure it was the one I wanted since their slowly rotating menu was at its furthest point from me knowing what number tap it was. He made me wait until I could tell him a number, to which he started pulling the wrong beer anyway. I'm not sure what happened but the glass shattered so he told me to pick a different beer which at least gave me a chance to tell him he was pouring the wrong tap anyway. The food runners that actually waited on the tables were nice and helpful double-checking on our food allergy questions with the kitchen.
The food: Our food came out surprisingly fast (about 12 minutes) but made to order and hit so kuddos to the kitchen staff on their ticket times, granted they weren't slammed. The burger was tasty and not dried out, albeit well done since it was a smash burger. The 4 of us that tried it liked but the egg was not runny (which we like) and while $16 was fairly reasonable with the toppings we didn't get a separate one for our kids since they were also going to charge $16 for a plain burger (no bacon, cheese, onion marmalade, egg). The chips that we chosen for the side were crunchy but very bitter with a dirty taste; nobody out of the 7 liked them. The large order of fries we had to purchase separately (not available as a side option) were at least good a portion size. The Thai noodle salad was just okay. The half of the table that had the pretzels seemed to think they were pretty good. The brisket was dried and not the best smoke flavor. The pulled pork waffle could have used a little more pork but was quite good. They were out of the slaw that was supposed to be served with the dish. By far, the highlight of the night was the wings. A little steep at $15 for 10 and the garlic Parm sauce could have been a little more flavorful but the wings were big, meaty, very juicy, and super crispy/crunchy. We were concerned they weren't gluten free since they were breaded but we were assured they use a GF breading. Even reheated the next morning in the microwave they were...
Read moreArrived on Saturday 5-13-23, 5:45, walked in, plenty of open tables, sat down at a high table. After about 5 minutes of watching waiters dart around, we noticed a small sign across the dining area that said "order here". That was our clue to the fact it was a self order place. I walked up to the counter and saw a pile of menus and brought 2 back to the table. Once we figured out what we wanted, I went back to the counter and after about a seven minute wait in line, I ordered a chicken sandwich with fries and she ordered a margarita flatbread. You are given a number on a stand to place on your table. Next you have to navigate the full bar and wait for the one bartender to get your drinks, another 5-7 minute wait. I asked for a lime slice in one of the beers and was told "this place doesn't do garnishes." So, back to the table with the two beers, the chicken and fries were just being delivered to our table. Things are looking up, wow that was quick! Fresh cut fries were in a small basket and good.....until half way through the basket, the 2nd half were nuggets, the fries were now 3/4 of an inch long. The chicken sandwich was a bit dry with a small squirt of a strange sauce. Of course they don't give you any utensils to eat with so you have ketchup on your fingers. Napkins ? Nope, nothing on the tables, no napkins, no salt or pepper, nothing. Back to the order counter to stand in line for a couple napkins. By the way, there aren't really any waitresses, just food runners. So we're still waiting for the margarita flat bread, my sandwich and fries are gone, we ask the runner who delivered the first meal about the flatbread and she said she would check on it, never saw her again. Well I'm seeing steam coming out of her ears by now, it's been 25 minutes since I finished eating, her meal is obviously not going to arrive, our drinks are empty so she goes back to the order counter and wants the money back for the flatbread, which they returned with a lame " sorry ", no attempt to make it right. Read moreI f’ing love food. All kinds of it. Very rarely complain. Let me just begin with that. First time order from the brewery cause I’ve never really been crazy about the menu, but the Messy Bastards sounded pretty damn good. I ordered that, hubby got the brisket with the waffle and we got an $8 side of “wicked good” mac and cheese. The second I got it hope and opened the lid I was immediately disappointed. The burnt ends were TINY, and very dry. Didn’t seem to be much cheese and gravy. I just thought for $15 it would have been loaded up. Welp, I tasted it.. almost spit it out. They covered it with some kind of SWEET sauce? To me it was kind of like honey mustard? Or a vinaigrette of some sort? The menu said there was gravy and queso so I was not expecting it at all. I’m so disappointed. The whole thing is just sitting on my counter right now. On to the over-priced mac and cheese - it was gross. All you taste is thick pasta and fake bacon. It was kind of like fake bacon bits mixed with Velveeta? My husband gave me a bite of his brisket annnd I spit it out. Almost immediately threw up. I’m friggin infuriated because I spent nearly $50 on this junk and I’m still wicked hungry. And I’m gonna wind up throwing away all this food, which is completely against my morals. I’m not trying to be an asshole at all, because again, I friggin LOVE food! I thought maybe just the BBQ technique they use just isn’t my style? But no, my husband confirmed it sucked, too. Apparently his top piece of brisket was okay but underneath was hard, dry, gristly. I so badly just want my money back but I’m a millennial and way too afraid to complain to someone in person. Guess I’ll be eating my financial mistake tonight instead of...
