Apple Betty — Restaurant in Town of Vernon

Waitresses seemed disorganized or just strange store procedures when ordering. Waitress came over to us at the bar a few mins after being seated by a older woman. She took our drink order. Someone else came back with our drinks a few mins later. The original Waitress never came back to take our food order. She walked by 4-6 times. Finally I said we are ready to order after waiting 15-20mins. She gave a why are you bothering me look and never came over. Shortly after a different woman took our order. Very unfriendly as well. Never asked if everything was ok by anyone. Did get a refill of coffee from another woman. The woman who took our drink order refilled the customer that came in after us coffee but didn't ask if we wanted a refill at all. The customer was sitting right next to us at the bar. People that came in after us received their food before we even got to order. The exterior and interior was very clean. The only staff that smiled was the older woman. All the rest looked and acted miserable. The comments from others were dead on accurate about the staff. We were reading the reviews from others while waiting for our order. We couldn't being how busy it was with that kind of service. I managed a restaurant for over 20 yrs and I was in disbelief with the unfriendlyness. We will never go back there. Visited...

First time getting food here and I got the order to go.

The chili you could tell was recently homemade by the fresh chunks of green pepper and onion. It was OK, but rather bland in my opinion for chili as it had minimal chili powder and no perceived spice from black pepper or other hot pepper. If you prefer zero spice chili then this is what you’re looking for.

The fries were lacking in the crispy department and slightly limp and soggy, but unfortunately that happens sometimes with to go orders of fries. Probably better eaten there.

The turkey club is made with their homemade roasted and hand carved turkey and it was absolutely fantastic. Well crafted layer by layer skewered together so as to not fall apart and quite tasty with the turkey as the star of the show plus the right amount of tomato, lettuce, mayo, and bacon as supporting characters. We stopped for a late lunch, the food was good; However the service was not as good as it usually was. The staff was more worried about cleaning up and getting prepared to close for the day. No refills on our drinks, never saw a waitress again until we paid our bill.... I may be old fashioned but I believe the tip reflects the quality of the service. Good service equals a good tip, mediocre service, equals a mediocre tip and poor service equals a poor tip it's that simple. That being said, it is not usually the case to have bad service here, maybe we caught them on an off day. (I hope so) So try Apple Betty's out for your self I know you will enjoy the food...Hopefully the service will be just as enjoyable for you...
