Beanies Diner — Restaurant in Town of Viroqua

It would seem Bennie’s has fallen from great food to substandard food in just a few short months. I would go for the Thursday rib special every week and Sunday for gravy and biscuits. In the beginning I was served beautiful dry rubbed ribs that fell off the bone.

Today I received everything cold on a plate. Cold Ribs, under cooked with cold BQ sauce slathered on. Cold mash potatoes that the butter could not melt on and cold canned French cut green beans. I asked to talk to a manager. A young man more than likely under 20 years old came out to address my concerns. I was told the old cook had all the recipes and he was doing his best, which is substandard because he lacks the experience to be the top line cook. Further talking to the staff it became apparent there is an absentee owner. The combination of this shows why this business has slowed down to the point of closing on Wednesdays. Inexperienced staff and absent owner in a small town diner equals not open for long and someone losing a lot of money.

I sure hope someone takes this review seriously. Bennie’s was once a great place to eat. Now it is just a struggling substandard diner found in to many of Wisconsin small towns. That will slowly die because no one cares enough to build a lasting business that serves...

I was at Beanies Wed. My brother was with me. He ordered the Wed special which included hamburger steak with mushrooms and onions, mashed potatoes and gravy and a veggies. I told waitress to hold onions, he does not eat onions. A bit later the waitress brought a baked potato. I told her he was suppose to get mashed potatoes. Soon after she brought a bowl with the baked potatoes scraped out of the skin. A bit later she brings a plate with the steak smothered in onions. I said they were suppose to hold onions, she said I never told her to hold them.. I said where is the gravy, she pointed to the juice on the plate. I asked where are the veggies, she pointed to the onions saying they are the veggies. I almost laughed at her. How pathetic. My brother scraped off the onions and ate the hamburger steak and dry potatoes. I had a hot dog, how can you screw up a hot dog. Then got charged additional 4 percent service fee, we actually paid by check and not by credit card which is why they charge the additional AMT. I will never go back there again, service was very poor and attitude was even worse...

I cannot recall the exact day that I went in, since it has been about 5 months now. The reason for the 3 stars was that the food was good, but the service was not.

I can understand things slow down if it's busy. My own first regular hourly job was as a server. It wasn't busy that day, however. There were two servers, plus another over on the other side past the ice cream. The one serving us seemed to just forget we had been seated, then that we even existed after the order was taken. We couldn't flag her down for missing drinks and an incorrect order, as she seemingly disappeared for 20-30 minutes or more at a time. She also didn't come back around to check if everything was correct or if anything else was needed, as seems to be SOP for anywhere else, or any other time we were here previously.

That was the reasoning for my 3 stars, but leaving the comments blank. I was not in a mood to be generous with words, so left it blank...
