Hurricane Irma has changed our plans and we decided to go to Warwick instead. After comparing several B&Bs and hotels at the Warwick area, we chose Chateau Hathorn due to the positive reviews on their restaurants, nearby local spot vicinities and their offered rooms have the best prices during our stay. ||||We stayed the weekend (Saturday and checked out Monday) at their Suite #2, which was a huge room at under $200 per night rate. There was wifi access in the room, and the antique furnitures were all charming. The tub is a regular size NYC bathtub but the bathroom itself is pretty big although just one sink. The only hanging closet is inside the bathroom. The flat screen TV is decent size (although the significant other, of course, would prefer a bigger size TV to see his precious football game). The heating is very good during chilly nights although it seems the electric fireplace in the room is only decorative (we did not feel any heat coming from it). ||||Plenty of light sources in the room which we like. As the inn is quite old, floors of course are slightly creaky and we can hear the lovely live guitar music and conversations from the dining area in our room (this could be of concern for those who prefers privacy and don't like outside noise - regular hotels might be a better choice for you).||||Since the inn and restaurant are closed Monday and Tuesday, we did not have breakfast on Monday and the owners deducted this on our Sunday rate. We plan on staying the next time Friday and Saturday instead as their continental breakfast was very good (assorted bread, cheese, butter, jam and fresh fruits along with OJ and coffee). Breakfast time is strictly 8:30-9:30a. Since we were the only couple there on Sunday, the owners surprised us with a plate of cold cuts which were so delicious.||||The grounds were spacious and there was a lovely garden, creek, and gazebo at the back of the house that were probably used for events, which the B&B is well-known for.||||We met the owners who are so charming and lovely as well as some of the staff when we ate dinner on Sunday. Since we attended several wine tasting at the nearby Warwick Valley Winery and Applewood Winery, we decided to have cocktail drinks at the restaurant, and they were perfect. I am not a foodie expert so I leave the recommendations to other reviewers but I was satisfied with my dinner and loved the escargot and linguini with clams. My bf said it was the best linguini with clams he ever had (and he's half Italian). We were stuffed so we did not order dessert but our cappuccino were excellent.||||As far as sightseeing around the area, Chateau Hathorn is a perfect distance for short drive to several orchards and wineries, from Warwick downtown village (with charming stores, restaurants and a farmers' market during weekends) and a fantastic ice cream place called Bellvale creamery about 5 miles away. ||||Although it is a bit disconcerting at first checking in as the place seems to be empty and we just went inside looking for the owners, we loved Chateau Hathorn with its fantastic history, architecture, antique vibes and lovely owners. We stayed at another popular B&B around the Warwick area but with the great room rate, good food and excellent service, we definitely will...

Read moreWe had eaten here, maybe 10 years ago and enjoyed it immensely. I made a reservation for yesterday, 8/28/2020 to celebrate my Husbandâs birthday. We entered, waited, a young lady said just a second, went outside...did not return. A young man approached us and said ..youâre walk-ins, right. We responded no, we have a 6:00 reservation. He turned and re-turned the pages of the âbookâ, and said just a second...and went outside, eventually came back and seated us. Water came quickly. Things went downhill from there. We waited more than 10 minutes to be approached (same young man from earlier), he wanted our dinner orderđ€Ș. We asked if we could order some Prosecco. He said yes, and again asked if we wanted to order? We again replied not yet! Another 10 minutes goes by, finally the drinks arrive. By now we have decided on dinner. We ordered a Spring salad, to share, my Husband ordered the Long Island Duck, I ordered the Halibut Provençal. Sometime later, the salad came, one large plate. We said we ordered it to share. Waitress was clueless and walked away. We used our dirty bread plates to share our salad. When she returned, we asked her if she could tell us what something on the salad plate was? She looked at it , said it looks like peppers to me, but I donât know. I suggested she ask the kitchen and let us know. That never happened! Entrees arrived, I ordered mashed potatoes, got rice. Asked for the mashed potatoes, which she brought shortly. My husband ordered Spatzel, got rice...asked for what he ordered, it came shortly. Presentation of the food was much like a diner, everything just plopped on the plate. The juices from the tomatoes on my fish were all over the plate. Incidentally the Provençal had no flavor, except salt. So salty I could not eat it! My Husbandâs Duck was fine, not the quality we expected, given prices, but edible. When the waiter returned my Husband explained that almost ALL of my fish was still on my plate because it was too salty to eat, waiter says, Iâm sorry. I said, not his fault, but he needed to advise the kitchen. He said he would. That was that! Nothing further from ANYONE. We didnât order dessert, we had had enough disappointment. It is important to say that the restaurant was not all that busy. Two or three tables of two people, our table and one table of 8. The waiter spilled their drinks on them! In any case, a âworld renownedâ chef in a pricey chateau restaurant should have easily been able to manage. Not the case. My final comments: Reception and wait staff not trained, they were more suited for a âchainâ restaurant (frankly, I have received better service there)! The Chateau is a lovely building, things are shabby, dirty window treatments, bulbs missing from ceiling fixtures...not worthy of their hype. The food was just sad and the prices ridiculous given everything else. Portions were generous, but if you canât eat it because of its preparation, more is not better! Overall, a sad celebration for my Husbandâs birthday. Probably should have gone with my first thought which was the Glenmere. Very disappointed and will not go back...
