My original review from 5/15, posted on Yelp:
In a region full of small diners, Broken Yolk is hands down the best I've had. Quick service, eggcellent, diverse menu, and friendly servers make this restaurant worth it even on the busiest of mornings.
Try their signature dish, the Broken Yolk, or the José Benny (chorizo patties and poached eggs on English muffins, topped with sour cream and salsa verde).
They also have great specials, like their Crumb Cake french toast (just like it sounds - crumb cake dunked in egg batter and toasted on the griddle, topped with streusel and blueberries).
If you're like me, you prefer the homemade restaurants to the big chains that make Buffalo unique. This place hits the spot for a breakfast date or a family. You'll be in and out and completely satisfied whether you have a sweet or savory tooth, the Broken Yolk has it all!

Man, this place has gotten popular! I'm glad to see that this business is doing very well, and the service and quality of food hasn't changed a bit in the year since my last review. With new specials every month, there's no lack of interesting new menu items.
We have taken to going here weekly for our breakfast date, and have settled on a few favorites: the Broken Yolk (their signature dish), the Lumberjack Waffle, and their Caramel Banana waffle. We're certainly not the only regulars, either! I see two or three every time we're there.
If you're going on a weekend morning, be sure to include some extra time because it can get very busy, even with their fast, efficient, and most importantly,...
Read moreI tried this place because I was out at breakfast time with some friends and we found ourselves with a few hours to kill, so off for brunch it was! The location could be better- it's in an out of the way spot off of Transit near the 400. The lot was full and there was a bizarre layout to the asphalt, so we were forced to drive over grass to get to the other side. The place was clean and the wait was not that bad. The food was great- my omelette was good. The veggie hash ended up just being hash browns with veggies on top- I was expecting a hash out of just veggies, but it was till good even if it wasn't what I was expecting. The place is small, and for the 5 of us we had to have someone on the end of the table, which was a touch tight, but ok. The decor was a bit too spartan for my taste- one picture on one large wall, and some clean curtains. The egg themed pictures were in an adjacent room. The decor could certainly use some help- it was clearly not thought of let alone an afterthought. If you only want food - the food is great- if you want ambiance, like I...
Read moreEveryone needs to just stop with the over the top reviews. I've been there four or five times now because my kids like it and the place is ok but it's nothing special. Somehow it's become this hipster hot spot that gets way over hyped. The food isn't even that good, last time I was there my homefries weren't even cooked right. They were just boiled potatoes with a little red powder sprinkled on them to make them look like they'd been browned on the griddle. Mushy potatoes with none of the crispy brown parts that are the whole reason to get home fries. You can get a much better breakfast at a dozen other places in town. The tables barely seat four people so they put chairs at the end of them to shoehorn in a fifth person even though there isn't room for one. They also won't seat you until your entire party is there so if one person is runing late the others can't even sit and have coffee you just have to stand in the doorway until they get there and watch everyone else get seated. I don't get it. No worries about me taking up any of their limited...
