I almost never write reviews but after reading some negatives about this little gem I couldn’t resist. The negative reviews on here are ridiculous. I am a restaurant owner and have been the director of food operations for a large company of diverse restaurants and I love this place. We stumbled across it while passing through town. First of all its clean and everyone who works there has a smile on their face. Everybody, customers and staff seem to everyone in town and all seem genuinely happy to see each other. It’s a very charming and Mayberry type vibe. We got great conversational service from two servers. One server got our drinks and then she got busy so another seamlessly pitched in and took over our table. We had just left Chicago and had dined at some trendy big-ticket dinner-houses and you can’t compare this restaurant in almost any way to thosemeeders text kinds of establishments. One reviewer said the presentations were as simple as possible and I agree – but I feel good about that. There’s no nonsense or pretense here – just good home cooked food on a plate, just like you would eat at home. In the spirit of the establishment I had the roast beef dinner with mashed and three bean salad and it was solidly good. It was more like a pot roast consistency but the flavor was great and the potatoes were freshly made. My wife had the stuffed baked haddock and it was delicious. The stuffing had just a hint of seafood and wasn’t something I would pay $25 for but for twelve bucks it was satisfying and delicious. Every table ordered pie so we had to try them. I had a blueberry peach a-la-mode made with fresh fruit and we also ordered a slice of rhubarb, also fresh. Both were huge servings and really great. The best I ever had? No, but surprisingly good for a small out of the way little restaurant. The menu tells a story rich with family tradition and you can feel it in the culture of the staff and the simple quality of the food. My dinner there was a nice reality check after my pretentious and overpriced dinners in...
Read moreThis was probably one of the worst restaurants I have even been at. The waitress (Sherry) came out, didn’t even ask us how we were doing. She then proceeded to ask us what we wanted even before looking at the menu. The waitress only gave us two minutes to look at the menu and then got mouthy when we started to order. We were there for approximately 40 minutes and she only came back one time to refill my fathers cup with coffee, and the best part is that she didn’t even ask us how our meal was. Matter of fact, our waitress didn’t even bring out our meal, it was a different one. To top it off, she didn’t even tell us to have a good day. She just slapped the check on our table as she walked by. Let’s just say we will never be going here again and will definitely not recommend this place to anyone. The owner definitely needs to evaluate their employees or at least train them on how to deal with the...
Read moreCute, attractive diner in a pseudo-50s style. Pros: clean and neat, bright colors, comfortable temperature. Clean bathrooms. Good prices. Cons: one stall per bathroom. 'snarky' signs hanging around which, on my first visit, seemed to be a bit funny, but by my third, were not as funny. Made me wonder if this is what the establishment thought about me after I'd left. Funny signs are welcome, but signs that clap back at customers make me uncomfortable (such as the mousetrap sign). Overall, the food is palatable. The staff are quick. To get four stars, the food would have to improve and sarcastic signage would need...
