I have eaten at Mikata Japanese steakhouse in Troy, Alabama for years. I order the same thing almost always, but tonight I was overcharged $6 for the smallest side of cabbage ever. I even tried to explain it to the lady that was doing the cash register and she would not give. I explained to her that I have been there countless times and they have never charged me for a cabbage because it comes with the meal, but tonight was a different story. Mr Wonderful is one of the best Japanese Hibachi Cooks in the area , but the restaurant does questionable practices like this sometimes which really makes me upset. I didn't have the time to sit there and argue with her, But be sure you are not overcharged on your visit and be sure to look at your bill always before you give them your credit card which was my mistake tonight. The only other complaint I have is sometimes when I ask for medium steak it is rare to medium-rare and usually have a belly ache afterwards when this occurs. They have also cut back on the portion size of the fried rice and the amount of eggs used at each table. For the amount of money they charge they can afford to give more rice and add at least one more egg to the rice and still make a...
Read moreUpdate 7/28/24: Filet Mignon was slightly overcooked. Rice didn't have much flavor and was undercooked.. Soup and salad were good... service was decent, couldve been better. Shoutout to Steve: Thanks for the orange for our little guy Atmosphere wasn't as good as it could be or used to be... this is much closer to our house than Montgomery. Mikata is honestly overpriced.. only really come here bc of convenience of location/proximity to our home.
Portions are very slim. $112 for 2 people. Filet was only about 1 1/2 cup total, maybe 3 cups of rice total.. salad was what it was. The food item that attracts me to Mikata the most is the soup.
...But $112 for the portions was had and the quality of food this time... ABSOLUTELY NOT WORTH IT. 99% sure we will not...
Read moreI've been there twice this year. The first time was for the hibachi, which was delicious. More recently I went with a friend just for the sushi, which I found very disappointing. The Sashimi appetizer *6 pieces) was chef's choice. the 6 pieces of tuna tasted extremely bland, but the texture was about right. The taste was masked by placing the pieces on about a full cup of thickly sliced cucumbers. The other roll was a tuna crunch. The roll was so over powered by the crunch and the avocado that I wasn't even able to take the tuna. I'll still go back and give it another shot in case I just caught them on a bad night. The Itamae and the wait staff were very friendly and...
