Nate's Italian Kitchen — Restaurant in Tucson

UPDATE 2023/05/13 In general everything I originally wrote below stands. This evening I ordered spaghetti with Marinara sauce and grilled chicken. A small salad and water. I was a little disappointed tonight. Here's my complaints: To my taste, the marinara sauce has little or no flavor whatsoever. They really need to step it up. The pasta itself and the grilled chicken was good. Only bottled water is provided. They should serve regular ice water gratis. Normally they give a free complimentary pasta appetiz. Today they have run out none was available. There's no salt and pepper shakers anywhere in the restaurant. You have to ask for it while your food is sitting there getting cold. They need to put salt and pepper shakers at each table and at the bar. They seem to be very stingy with napkins. I can't complete a meal with one small napkin. You have to ask this the worker every time you need a napkin. They should have napkins available at all the tables and at the bar. This is the only restaurant I've ever frequented in my entire life where they insist that you pay for your order before you finish eating. They seem to have a steady flow of new workers every time I go there. This time the same worker that's delivering your food, your napkins your to-go boxes and your drinks is busy cleaning all the tables, packing up the dirty tablecloths and even picking up the dirty floor mat to clean it. Then you receive your food items without her washing her hands. I'm not fond of that. It's impossible to receive bread which has not been previously soaked in butter and then on top of that they add additional butter. I would like to be able to order plane, unbuttered warm bread. GOOD: The food does continue in general to be very good. The portions are enormous They do provide very high quality to go containers which do not leak. This is a real plus and highly appreciated. Nate's is great in all respects! Food is great, bar nonr! I never had anything remotely bad there. Authentic Italian food. Everything is fresh. Huge portions! Reasonable price. This is one of the few or maybe the only place in Tucson that actually understands what a Philadelphia chees steak is! Just like the old days near Philly! Everyone is super friendly. And respectful. I ordered 2 fettuccine Alfredo entrees, and a meatball sub. I walked in and placed my order and they gave me an estimated time of about 15 minutes until it would be ready. The restaurant seemed to be fulfilling all online/pick up orders before fulfilling mine, even though my order was placed first, and over a dozen people walked in and walked out before I received mine. I ended up waiting an HOUR at the counter for my order. When I did receive my order it seemed as though it had been ready and waiting for me and they just forgot to bring it out to me. Extremely frustrating!

I was excited to try this new business in my neighborhood, but I was so sorely disappointed tonight with this service I’m afraid I will never be back. My time is precious I could have been with my family but instead I was waiting at the counter. My bill was about $50 for 3 entree’s and I can’t help but compare to other Italian restaurants like Olive Garden where it would have been the same price but I would have gotten a salad and breadsticks too, and it would have been a lot quicker service.

When I got home about 5 minutes after finally receiving my order, the meals for my family were all lukewarm at best. My family and I couldn’t even finish any of the 3 meals we ordered, not only because it was lukewarm but also because the taste was just awful. The fettuccine Alfredo was very oily and the sauce did NOT taste smooth and creamy, it had a strange tang to it. The meatball sub was soggy from sitting so long and the meatballs had the same strange tangy flavoring as the fettuccine Alfredo. I’ve never tasted Italian food like this and I wouldn’t recommend it, especially because of the time I wasted waiting.

So I ordered two chicken fettuccine alfredo dinners and two coca-cola's. Food gets here I'm super ready to eat and I open up my fettuccine and there's no chicken on either one of them. I remembered in the app it charged me an extra $4 to add chicken to it so I knew I had did it so I called the restaurant and I'm telling her about this and next thing I know I look at the receipt to double check and it hadn't charged me for the chicken. So I told the lady I'm sorry I made a mistake and she said no no no no we want you to love your dinner what did you mean to order and I told her I meant to order two chicken fettuccine Alfredo's and I got two regular Alfredo's but it didn't charge me for the chicken so it's okay she said no no no we're going to send you two chicken Alfredo's right now we want your dinner to be amazing you had your heart set on chicken fettuccine alfredo that's what you're going to get give me the address. I again insisted no ma'am it's okay it didn't charge me for it I made a mistake I shouldn't have even called. She then9 said if you make me go back into the Uber eats menu and find your address I'm going to put a desert in there. Nevertheless I gave her my address and she said she was still going to put a dessert in there. I will be ordering food from them again and I will be going to sit down and eat and that establishment. It's that kind of hospitality that gets you those lifelong customers that will choose you over any other Big chain that does Italian food. Plus the quality was better to be honest I felt like they're Italian food is some of the best in Tucson. So needless to say I'll be back to Nate's Italian kitchen.
