I was born in Venezuela but have been living in Tulsa for the last 30 years, over that time there have been a few Venezuelan Restaurants in Tulsa,, they didn't last very long because people really dont know what it is,its not mainstream like lets say Mexican food.
A couple of days ago a coworker told me "hey you know there is a Venezuelan restaurant on 81st and Yale??! well i couldn't believe my ears so i recruited my boss to take me there since he likes to try new things and i was very homesick for a good Venezuelan meal.
I love this place!! we went in and i pigged out on some good old fashioned Pabellon while my Boss had some Empanadas, i went back today for some more and i might be going back tomorrow,Venezuelan food is very unique, their emphasis is on a unique taste and other things and not spiciness like Mexican food, they are definitely 2 different animals.
The staff manning the restaurant are very very nice, today i saw some Hallacas sitting on a tub,i was speechless, Hallacas are a typical December ONLY food eaten in Venezuela made with special ingredients, they are a chore to make but delicious, they are like a hot pocket wrapped in banana leaves that is boiled and eaten hot,its very tasty.
I hope this place stays around because i really like it,if you are looking for some really good food in a pleasant atmosphere served by very nice people give this place a try,its not a big place so i wouldn't recommend a party of 30 or things like that, maybe mom and dad and 2 kids kind of place, hope...
Read moreThe first thing I noticed was that El Arepaso Venezuelan Café is a well kept clean little shop. Tidy, pleasantly decorated. Order at the counter, pay at the counter. The food is served on disposable tableware and the drinks are bottled. The young lady working the counter was very nice. The food….. I have found my Venezuelan soul food meal at El Arepaso Venezuelan Café, the “Pepito.” When I saw the picture of that beef sandwich covered in “potato stix,” I was pulled in. It was no disappointment. Tender lean chopped steak, lettuce, onion, cheese, bell pepper, some of every kid of sauce they have, and of course potato stix! The sandwich is put in a press, smashing the soft sub style bun to about a quarter of an inch thick; finished with a toasty crust. An explosion of flavor. The best Venezuelan food item I have eaten. You will throw rocks at a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich, once you have had this. I hoovered it up! My wife went for the Pabellon Empanada. A boring looking fried pie thing. How deceptive. It was another phenomenal Venezuelan food item. Shredded beef, plantains, black beans, cheese, wrapped in a thick handmade corn tortilla, deep fried, served with a perfect avocado flavored sauce on the side. My wife raved about how good it was, while she was eating it, and all...
