I have lived in Tulsa on and off for 50+ years. I've passed by this place numerous times I didn't really ever consider going until reading this review, and put it on my things to try list. Tonight we ordered 1/2 all meat & 1/2 supreme. Because I get sketched out on certain pies that are soaked in sauce and dripping in pepperoni grease I decided to order the supreme with light sauce, no pepperoni sub with canadian bacon. (By the way, at no extra cost) The place was packed at 7 pm as we picked up our order to go. Since we told the owner we would try the hummus next visit, he learned it was our first time.. and was kind enough to give us a small hummus with pita bread complimentary. The pizza smelled like heaven and we could hardly wait to try it..but first hummus. The hummus was just so-so. I'm a garlic freak and was expecting something with more of a punch. Not disappointing by any means just not for me. Now to the pizza... The first bite touched my soul to its core. I think I took on the shape of a unicorn and momentarily left my body. All three of us were in pure bliss and unable to speak for a good 20-30 minutes..just short grunts, moans and head shakes. Now normally I can throw down 3 pieces of pizza and could take or leave the crust. But not this holy mother of all pies. I could barely eat 2 pieces. The crust almost made me call out my own name! I'm not a pizza expert by any means..but I have had pie in NY, Rome, and Italy and nothing compares to this. One large pie fed 3 foodies with 4 slices left over. We all agreed we should have stopped before 2 slices but no..we ain't no quitters! Do yourself...
Read moreACCIDENTAL TOURST. We were in Tulsa a few weeks ago for a Football game. The night was crisp so we set out on a walk from the hotel for find local food for dinner. Our target was a Brazilian place we had hear about but the aroma of Pizza cooking made us seek out the source. We happened upon La Roma!
At first, we rejected the outer appearance of the restaurant and as we peeked in we decided to look some more BUT that aroma kept haunting us.... Then we saw the Lebanese sign on the store front... Now we were intrigued. What could this place actually serve - I had visions of a falafel pizza in my mind. So we made our decision to try La Roma.
As we entered we were engaged with the family owners. Katerina was as charming as she was beautiful. I would consider returning just for the fun banter. Mom was extremely funny and engaging. Everyone seemed excited for us to be there and once we discovered that the restaurant was over twenty years old we were very impressed.
By the end of the meal - Cabbage Roll, Small Veggie Pizza, and a calzone we were still impressed..... We had the Baclava for desert and departed the restaurant wishing we could have eaten more but our belts would not allow that.
If you are looking for a good pizza with a great atmosphere... La Roma is worth the trip. I will return even if I have to drive a few hours...
Read moreWe waited out front for about 3 hours (this was my family's first time here, we didn't know when they opened the restaurant) and the wait was very worth it. Our order total would've been $43 and some change, but the dedicated cashier (if I remember right her name was Kathia, though I may have misheard her) was talking with us and hearing that we waited for so long for our first visit, that she gave us a really generous family discount of $23 (and some change) off, making our total $20. We ordered a large Supreme pizza and a small Triple Threat (jalapeños, cayenne pepper, and 3 different types of spicy italian sausage), and they were both really stellar. The Triple Threat shouldn't scare people (unless they decide to make it spicier eventually) because (at least to me) it's hot but not overdone. The crust is amazing, being uniquely crunchy but not rock solid, and the overall pizza wasn't really greasy at all. The service was really great too. All the people there are friendly and seem to have a meaningful connection with all of the customers, and they go out of their way to check on you to see how you're enjoying the food. It's a...
