Evangelines is hands down the best restaurant around. The venue is romantic, cool and modern, and there are always gorgeous fresh flowers on the tables. The service is top notch and the GM, David keeps a close eye on everything without stepping on anyone’s toes. He is genuinely a wonderful person, and has an angelic aura about him. You can feel the positive energy of the place, which is unusual in the restaurant business. My kids worked in a restaurant and the GM was not nice to the employees, which is why I notice and appreciate things like that. As a customer, you are appreciated from the moment you walk through the door by the friendly, attentive staff. Now for the food and drinks: the aptly named dynamite shrimp truly was right down to the salad/slaw underneath it which is not to be missed. Four of us ordered the Summer Strawberry Salad. The strawberries, walnuts, blue cheese crumbles and honey balsamic dressing made it seem like we were starting off with dessert...because it was that good. All of our entrees were out of this world with fresh ingredients of the highest quality. My husband loved his salmon salad and when I took a bite of the fish, OMG it was cooked perfectly with the tastiest of seasonings. One of my sons had the pesto noodles with chicken, was brilliantly prepared. My other son had the Brock Burger with sweet potato fries. The burger was tremendous and beautifully smothered in swiss and mushrooms with the tastiest sweet potato fries. But my favorite was a sautéed vegetable plate the chef out together for my son and I that is not on the menu. The seasonings and mix of veggies cooked so perfectly was a work of art. We are foodies from the northeast and a bit particular. Evangelines cheerfully accommodated every request and oh, the drinks! My son and husband said the Old Fashioned was the best ever. If you love Cabernet, try their Katherine Goldschmidt...tasteful selection of wines. One of us enjoyed a lemon drop in a martini glass with a sugared rim....yum! The bartender is a master! It was my son’s birthday and he got a dessert drink that had a chocolate rim with sprinkles and I don’t know exactly what was in it, but mmmmmm!!!!! Maybe Baileys Irish Cream, Rumchata, Kahlua? I never post reviews, but we were so impressed with Evangeline’s I feel compelled to let everyone out there know. If you are wondering where to go for dinner, Evangeline’s...
Read moreMy wife an I celebrated our 13th anniversary here. Understanding Covid has caused a lot of changes in the restaurant industry, I am understanding of the business hours. This made it impossible to inform the staff of this and ask for something special to be done.
The reservation process was simple and I loved how it was done online. We we arrived, the table was ready for dinner for two. I informed our server that it was our anniversary and other than saying Happy Anniversary, nothing else was done or mentioned. Very disheartening.
The food we ordered was great. Well cooked, to our specifications. The pork chop I ordered had a slight "rotting" scent, like it had been at the restaurant for several days. My wife loved her steak. The wine selection was great and the mixed drinks were delicious.
Overall, I'm upset that no one cared why we were there. The lady walking around with a water pitcher wouldn't leave us alone. I would take two drinks and she would be at our table filling up both glasses. Very annoying when we are trying to enjoy a romantic night. I may be expecting too much since other restaurants have gone out of the way to make our anniversary special.
The food was good, but at that price you expect a much better experience. It's doubtful we...
Read moreSimply the best in Tuscaloosa, and amongst the best I’ve ever had. To begin, my boyfriend had a cocktail, the winter mule. The alcohol was generous and all ingredients even in the drink were noticeably high quality. The ginger beer tasted amazing. I had an Argentinian Malbec that blew my mind. Appetizer: soup du jour - cup of zucchini and orzo. DI-VINE. Pork and greens, perfection. So crisp, flavorful, and an amazing portion. Main course: I got the shrimp and grits, and I actually had to take the bulk of it home because the app portions were so impressive. The sauce was drinkable it was so delicious, I get nervous ordering shrimp while out to eat because many places overcook it way too harshly. NOT Evangeline’s. It was tasty and fresh. My boyfriend got the catfish and loved it, too!!!! We saved room for dessert which we didn’t regret - the key lime pie was great (although he said it was more of a sweet treat, not tart, if that’s what you’re into). I had the chocolate peanut butter cake and took the rest of it home to finish with another glass of red. A very rare and special indulgence this evening was. I knew I had to visit Evangeline’s. David’s attention to detail is...
