I am reviewing my first time going to Tuscny after tasting their pizza at a conference 2 weekends ago I was so impressed I sought this place out. I had delicious fresh hot pizza at the conference so I expected nothing less on Friday when I went. I got there around 7:30 and ordered the same exact 20â pizza from the conference just a pepperoni pizza and the cashier was telling me that it would be a while but the cook said no he could get that pizza done right now so I was thinking ok great. He handed her a pizza literally 2 seconds later. And after paying $43 they gave us an old hard pizza that has been sitting under the warmer for hours. I was shocked and I thought about the standard and impression that they were willing to leave for a quick turnaround in order not to waste old product and do the work of making a fresh pizza. I recently watched an episode of masterchef and Gordan Ramsey yelled at the cook for trying to serve the customer leftover risotto from a previous batch made recently. He told her not to disrespect me, my reputation, my restaurant and ultimately my customer by not serving them a fresh meal that they entrusted me to give them. He had these standards for every customer because he served every customer with a unique level of quality for their food. Restaurants have lost their standard of excellence and quality delivered in every plate of food and if you cannot be consistent with your product you cannot be trusted by your customers. I had them once and it was excellent and I went to their establishments to try it again and if all 750 plus people who tried their pizza at the conference did the same thing as me and was given an old stale hard overcooked pizza they will feel robbed and highly disappointed as I did. Wouldnât recommend this place for this reason and wouldnât ever return just to throw away $43 again.
Review update * 3 months ago we had a bad experience and reviewed the restaurant here at a 1or 2 star and never returned. TuscNY now has new ownership and the new owner looked for us for 3 months to try and make things right. Sunday Jan 7th he found us and wanted to apologize for the pizza and service we had that night. He explained that TuscNY is upgrading their menu, their service and their hours and was extremely genuine and kind. After speaking with him for a while I am certain that under his leadership TuscNY will be the best pizza restaurant in Tuscaloosa and perhaps the state of Alabama. Long story short I lean on solid reviews for many things and this is the first time I have seen the leader of a company reach out like this and make things right. He appreciated our review and wanted to make TuscNY better. This is accountability at its finest and I am seriously urging the entire city of Tuscaloosa to support this new leader and enjoy the best pizza in the state! When they make it right it is absolutely delicious and the commitment to Tuscaloosa is to make every pizza right the first time. Fresh and delicious is what to expect from now on and it is worth every penny and worthy of being the place to build new family traditions for family...
Read moreI wanted to try this new place and stopped by for lunch. We were the only customers there. I didn't know what to expect since I had no knowledge of the place. If you want to know the menu and prices, go to DoorDash. We walked in and saw the deal on the chalkboard that said, 2 slices and two drinks for $13. So we ordered our preference and also chose two Caesar salads. We should have split it. The salad was large. It was fresh romaine lettuce, hard and crunchy croutons, pecorino romano cheese, and caesar dressing. I don't know, but it seemed very plain. Maybe the dressing was missing something. I had a slice of cheese pizza. There wasn't much sauce or cheese on it. The crust was as thin as a piece of cardboard. It tasted like toast. The edge of the crust was plain and dry. No sauce, oil, cheese, nothing. After I had finished eating, I saw them put up another chalkboard. This one offered hand-tossed and thick-crust pizza slices. Had I known, I would have chosen differently. Our server answered my questions about the pizza and their sizes. She showed me the 20" pizza box which feeds a crowd, mostly Friday and Saturday nights. The long rectangular box was for the thick crust pizza which has square slices. The smaller box was for their 12" pizzas. The slices are priced according to the deal of the day, how many toppings, and the choice of crust. I hope you will visit them for lunch based on this knowledge you have been given. The menu is also included in...
Read moreFirst time customer. Got the 20 inch pepperoni and the 12 inch Mama Mia. In the photo you can get an idea of the difference between a 12 inch and a 20 inch pizza by the boxes. Sorry I was too busy eating to post pictures of the actual picture.
The 20 inch pizza was all you could hope for in a New York style crust. It folded well and had a good chew. IYKYK!! Even better it passed the late night or breakfast cold pizza test by not getting soggy and the crust still retaining its integrity. Also reheated well(375 for 8 min got everything warm without over crisping the crust). The 12 was fine but wasn't as tasty as I was expecting with the garlic confit. But that could just be me.
Yes the price seems expensive but just from the 20 inch we got 5 meals, Dinner and lunch for 2 plus breakfast for 1, out of it. Making the cost about 8 dollars a meal. Which is less than you pay for a hamburger combo at your favorite fast food restaurant.
I didn't put anything for the atmosphere because I was there at 330 in the afternoon, on a Thursday, and I was the only one there. But the staff were nice and tried to explain to me the size of the 20 inch pizza. I wouldn't say they failed as much as I would say I failed to truly understand.
Best Pizza I have eaten in Tuscaloosa. Next time I am going to try the Sicilian style crust! Only recommendation I would have is that they display the pie pans so customers would get a true understanding of the size of...
