11/14/24 - just experienced the automatic gratuity. I scratched out the 20%, and put my own with a note, "Better and more attentive service equals a better tip." Waitress did not visit table voluntarily until we were ready to leave. One of our orders was short and item until we mentioned it, and she magically brought it to the table in 30 seconds...so, she had forgotten it (it wasn't that it hadn't been prepared). Food was good as always...service was sub par.
I think that because she knew she was going to get 20% guaranteed, our group wasn't worth her time, so she gave other smaller tables more attention, expecting a better tip.
If you anticipate spending $50, take cash, and if the service isn't worth an automatic 20%, change it, leave the appropriate cash on the table, and leave.
If I dine out, and service is good, my tips are 25%, minimum. Not tonight though.
Reading recent reviews regarding automatic gratuity...I am editing my review.
Next time we go, we will be paying with CASH. I will add the bill myself, and include the tip I think is deserving, place it on the table, get up and walk out. This will prevent my CC from being charged an automatic gratuity, and not have to interact with staff regarding the total of the bill.
We like the place, and are returning customers, but the automatic gratuity IS WRONG!!! I agree...tip is based on SERVICE, and not the amount of the bill.
If you want an automatic 20% tip, then PROVE IT! I am pretty generous with tips when eating out, because we don't go out that often, but now that I know this place is tacking on a tip they may not deserve, the bill will be paid with cash. If they want to chase me down, let 'em try. Will be long gone before they realize they can't screw me over twice (once for service or food undeserving of 20%, and another for trying to give yourself something you may not deserve).
Still...a good authentic menu. Sometimes busy, which is good for both the business, and let's others know it is a good place to eat. A good variety on the menu.
IMO...best homemade salsa in town. I will occasionally get some to go, take it home, and pair it with the best chips I have found,..On the Border. Sometimes my breakfast or dinner is just these two paired together!
I like the food, and haven't yet had issues with any of the staff. We have a few times waited a bit longer than anyone should to have our order taken, or get the food to the table, but no one is perfect. It's one of the few places in town that we frequent, so we will be back...I like Mexican food.
I also like Chinese, and meat. Our other go-to places are Texas Roadhouse and The Great Wall.
To the management and staff of Los Amigos...thank you for my experiences, but it seems that there are a couple things that need improvement according to a few recent reviews from others; staff interaction and attentiveness, and the quality, and prep of the food. Keep working on it... everyone and everything is a work in progress until we die or you quit beforehand.
7/18/25 - great service. Friendly waitress. ...
Read moreBased on the time on our phone when we finished a conversation as we walked in, we (3 of us) were seated at 3:57pm. Upon arrival, there were roughly 6 tables seated, with most of them seating 2-3 people each and 1 table seating 6-8 people. [Considering most of the tables left the restaurant by 4:20pm, the assumption can be made that they were in various stages of being served and eating.] The waitress brought chips and asked for our drink order and had brought the drinks out within roughly 5 minutes (4:05pm). As this was our first time here, we asked for a few minutes to look over the menu. Our waitress finally came back at 4:27 (after we waited approximately 25 minutes) to take our order. At 4:45pm (now 45 minutes after our arrival) we asked about the status of our food. The waitress stated that they were "slammed" when we arrived, and combined with all of their Door Dash orders and having only 1 cook, it was taking some time. She also stated that this is what she had just told a table of 2 that was seated soon after we arrived. At this point, we really did not care about past orders and how many cooks were working. We were wondering if our order had been forgotten to be placed and why we had bothered to order drinks, as we could not just walk out like we were tempted to do. And, again, as a former wait staff, 6 tables out of at least 20 would not normally be considered "slammed". Our food was brought out between 4:50-4:55pm, one plate at a time, as the waitress was also bringing one plate at a time to the other table. The waitress refilled the one water beverage twice, and did not offer to refill the ice tea beverages until after the plates were cleared. The waitress confronted one of our table-mates regarding his complaint about the service. When another table-mate asked for the conversation to stop, the waitress continued to argue that it was all someone else's fault, and only stopped when was told she was digging her hole deeper. The bill and to-go cups were asked for, which she brought out and quickly placed on the table as she walked away. Our frustration was not the kitchen cook-time. Our frustration was with the waitress. We wondered if she had forgotten to place our order. This could have been alleviated by her stating that the kitchen was playing catch-up from some big orders and would we like another basket of chips as orders were taking a bit longer than normal (and this was evidenced by a table of 2 next to us being seated at 4:50pm, and receiving their meal at 5:05pm). And the frustration continued when she would not acknowledge that she had a part to play in the length of time (taking over 20 minutes to return to get our order) but instead wanted to argue how none of this was her fault. Based on this service, and the food being "just OK", we do not plan to return. We have eaten at better Mexican places in town and will plan to frequent those...
Read moreDrive to Alma for good Mexican, or the closest “other” drive thru. They should name their drive thru “EL ENEMIGO”! Don’t waste your money here if you can’t go in. I’ve eaten inside a few times with friends and family. So I know they make a decent nacho. First time using the drive thru tonight. Never again. Ordered nacho rancheros, beans on the side because of the drive home, and a side of guacamole. Get home to a small tin holding less than half of what you get inside, but still paid full price. No guacamole anywhere. When I called about the error, thinking they gave me a small 1/2 order, I was informed I was correct on order size inside, but they only had a 9” pan to use for ToGo. Then use 2! And the pan wasn’t even full! I planned to share the meal based off what they give inside. Could You imagine going to Taco Bell and getting half your tacos because you use the drive thru? Or going through any business drive-thru and getting half of your order because they have certain size ToGo containers? BUT you still pay the full price of what you would get if you were eating inside? (Taking up space, dirtying dishes, costing electricity...) *The following exchange was thought provoking. It actually prompted my kids to tell me college was definitely in their futures.: When I asked about where the guacamole was, I was informed it doesn’t come with nachos. That’s fine, but I ordered an extra side. And she again said it didn’t come with the nachos. What? You’re a restaurant right? Yes. People get to order food that’s on your menu right? Yes. But I can’t have guac with my nachos? It doesn’t come with the nachos. But, I ordered a side. Silence. As small as the tin was, it wasn’t even full but was a good 2” away from the sides and not even close to the top. It looked like it’d fit on a bread plate. So a 7” tin size. Not even a half order for almost $13. Very little meat. I will concur with other reviews that the meat had no seasoning. But it sure had tons of lettuce. You get LOTS of lettuce in that 9 inch pan. Businesses complain they’re hurting but getting good customer service, or getting home without your meal messed up is rare anymore. Then they tell you to get in your car and drive umpteen miles back to get it fixed on your time and your dime. Not worth it. Can’t wait for the pandemic to be over and the ability to go into businesses that care about their customers and their service (and there ARE numerous businesses that care in our area). Once...
