Grown and Sexy Tavern — Restaurant in Union City

Here’s the headline: Cute place. Mediocre service. Poor ventilation. Misleading signage.

The set up is very nice. The seating areas and the atmosphere is very cozy and exceeded my expectations. You’d never expect it to look like that inside.

The servers need work. I’m not saying anything that’s not already in the other reviews. After receiving your food they just disappear! If you need condiments, napkins or another drink - you better ask when you receive your food because that’s it! I read that out of frustration, others just walked over to the bar to get what they needed. (Note to owner: that’s an easy fix!)

Gratuity is already included. I’m getting used to that. It’s something that’s being done in “our” establishments or the ones “we” frequent. I get it - and have no issue with it. But the servers should always disclose it when closing out a customer’s tab. I’m hip to the sneaky way that some servers will not show you the itemized receipt so you don’t see it and end up tipping an additional 20%. I had to ask if it was already included. I always leave a little extra but how much extra is based on whether or not the service was good and the server was honest about gratuity being included. (Note to owner: that’s an easy fix too!)

The ventilation system or lack there of needs work! You will leave smelling like you’ve been frying fish and chicken all day. We were only there for an hour! And it wasn’t even busy. Don’t ruin your Sunday best and make sure home is your destination after leaving this place. We walked in the house, stripped off our close and placed it straight in the washer!

The “Tuesday Specials” that’s advertised on their website and on the huge banner outside the restaurant is a bit misleading. Those specials (except the tacos) are only during happy hour. (Note to owner: that can be fixed too).

Honestly, there is no reason for me to give this one another try. I’m good on this place. Fortunately there are some amazing places in the area. I have visited a number of places in ATL since moving here in 2013 so I have shared my insight on a number of places. This location is owned and ran by more than one owner and their staff is passionate about service. From the IG post that caught my attention, to a returned ‘missed call’ and the level of service was top notch right from the start. From entering the parking lot and learning that a police station is nearby made the experience feel secure right from the start. A greeting upon entry was delightful and a clear tour of the Grown and Sexy Lounge also added to the winning experience for me. A separate cigar lounge allows the grown and sexy vibe to completely ‘level up’ ; no pun intended. I had already eaten so I will update this post in the event that food is experienced in the future but this review was worth sharing ‘as is’. The decor is upscale and classy from the dining to the cigar lounge area. The staff is upscale and classy from the owners to the servers. I love to see Black-Owned businesses thrive and it is not only because I am a Black woman. It is also because every community needs a place to feel safe and experience a level of service that makes them want to come back. A place where grown folks can get out and have a nice time without drama, stress, and unnecessaryness. A special shout out to the entire team! The only notes I have is to introduce standing ashtrays for the cigar lounge to accommodate the ‘reach’ from the comfortable leather couch seating. If you’re looking for a place that effortlessly blends good energy, great music, and a mature crowd, Grown and Sexy Tavern is it. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm, upscale atmosphere that still feels inviting and down-to-earth. The vibe is smooth, the crowd is respectful, and the entire experience lives up to the name—grown and sexy.

The drinks are strong (in the best way), the food is flavorful, and the DJ knows exactly what to play to keep the energy right without overwhelming the room. Whether you’re out with friends, celebrating a birthday, or just want a chill night out where you don’t have to deal with drama or overly packed spaces, this place hits the mark.

Service was on point—friendly bartenders, quick turnaround on food, and even the security made you feel welcome and safe. It’s clear this place is curated for those who know how to enjoy themselves with class.

Definitely my new go-to spot....
