I’ll start with what worked. The restaurant has a warm, cozy vibe that feels like stepping into a charming vacation town’s Indian eatery. The food was served fresh and hot, which is always a plus. The mango lassi was a highlight—well-made, flavorful, and served in a generous portion. The naan was another standout, perfectly soft and fresh. The staff was open to feedback, showing genuine sincerity and a desire to improve, which is promising and appreciated. However, there were some notable disappointments. The daal makhani was a letdown; I had to point out to the chef that a makhani sauce should never have visible, uncooked onion pieces—it disrupted the dish’s texture and flavor. The paneer tikka masala was average at best, with an artificial edge likely from food coloring, which detracted from the authenticity. The aloo tikki in the chaat was soggy and fell short of expectations, missing the crispness and balance you’d hope for. Beyond the food, a major issue was the non-functional restroom. In any dining establishment, this is simply unacceptable and needs immediate attention. Despite these shortcomings, the restaurant has potential. The team’s willingness to listen and improve is a strong foundation to build on. With some refinements to the dishes and operational fixes, this place could shine. Wishing them the best of luck...
Read moreDo yourself a favor and try Virasat in Union City. Everything about the place is top notch – the ambiance, the service and especially the food. The décor, lighting, and music all created a nice yet relaxed ambiance. Throw in the friendly and efficient service and you simply can’t go wrong. We started with the pani puri and it was amongst the best I’ve had. Crispy and the tamarind had a nice kick to it; simply delicious. Then we had the navratan korma and chicken seekh kebab with the mixed bread basket. The chicken came out on a sizzling platter that kept the chicken, the onions, and peppers hot. The vegetables in the korma were wonderful and the sauce was great – we used the bread to get every last bit of the sauce. Speaking of the bread, that too was a winner – good variety and each kind was so good. So good that we finished the entire basket even though they gave you so much. All this at a good price point too. We can’t wait to go back and try more...
Read moreRating is a bit deceiving. This isn't your better quality, affordable, or get more quantity place! Typically, I'd see new restaurants excel at one of them; and the great ones would meet all 3. There are much better options in East Bay.
Adding specifics with the hope that they improve!
We were super excited to try this new place, although it turned out to be an okayish experience.
Food felt like as if it came out of the microwave! Their daily special chole felt blend and flat, and bhaturas had an excrssive dripping oil.
Garlic Naan seemed like the frozen one made to the order.
The vegetarian manchurian was good while it was hot.
Portions are rather small when compared to other places in the same area.
Service is okay; small place, they've limited high chairs in case you're planning to be a little one. They did not bother to ask or offer help with...
