Crooked Spoon — Restaurant in Union Hill-Novelty Hill

We love stopping by and getting good meals and drinks, and for the last couple of years, I ask family and friends to meet us at the Crooked Spoon for dinner and drinks. Our waitress was very busy, and a nice young lady. But, I ordered 2 Bloody Mary's during our dinner. and I swear there was not a drop of vodka in either one. I didn't want to say anything, since it was my Birthday, but I have always had vodka in past Bloody Mary's there, and walked out feeling pretty good. This was like two expensive tomato juice drinks. I ordered the Beef Stroganoff, it was good, but arrived quite dried out on top, and no bread, even though we did ask for it a couple of times. We do appreciate having a nice restaurant close to us, and won't stop going to the Crooked Spoon....but, I will make a fuss if I get a non alcoholic Bloody Mary again. We have been going there for years and we really enjoyed their fish and chips. Probably some of the best fish and chips in the area. Now something has changed. Did they change the fish? Did they change the Chef? Did they change the recipe to maximize profits? They did something because we ate there March 17and we were served 2 plates of beautiful fish and chips that were absolutely tasteless. The fish was a beautiful white and had zero flavor. Okay, lots of fish is like thar so they add some seasoning to the batter. Not here. The batter had no flavor. At least that shows the grease was fresh. It is just sad they changed. It was our favorite thing on the menu and our main reason for choosing The Crooked Spoon over the dozens of other restaurants in the area. The service was 5 stars. Ambiance was 5 stars. The server was great but was the only one there. We ordered the Mediterranean plate. All of the vegetables were so wilted and old. Had the salmon sandwich and the patty melt, both with the salad option and again the lettuce and veggies were old and wilted. Very sad. Salmon was good, patty melt was okay. Ordered an IPA the it had stuff floating in it like it was from a dirty glass. Again, the server and service was great and she was able to replace it, and made sure we were doing well despite the food and drink. Good view and patio.
