This place used to be a good place a few years ago. Not anymore!!! The food was terrible, too salty, not fresh. The honey bbq pork was dry and hard like microwaved old food. The salt and pepper squid was too salty like it was soaked in salt water. The rice was too dry. Everything was salty and terribly made. We 4 people couldn’t finish even half of each dish. When we were there, there were only American customers, just us are Asians. She walked around sending fake smiles and fake chats to every single 💵 BIG 💵 tables. Been there a few times before and noticed that she never talked to or greet Asian customers or table of 2 or 3 people. No wonder we don’t see any more Asian customers there. Also Asian knows better how Asian food should taste like. What a shame! But I wouldn’t write a review if we were not ripped off by them. everyone should be warned 🛑 about their strategies to avoid being cheated.
I have a habit of checking everything before I make a payment. Please look at the pictures of the bills below. The left one is the original bill, the right one is the final bill. In the original one, They listed what I ordered but no prices, only the total amount. First, We ordered 4 dishes, 1 tea pot, and 2 lemonades. Then we added 1 more dish. There are 4 of us as adults and 2 little kids. No dishes we ordered was above $20/each. However, they calculate $96 for the first 4 dishes (pictures below) plus $17.30 for a tea pot and 2 sodas ??? ( way too much) Then $22.90 for the last dish which was just only vegetables. So the total we have to pay was $136.20. We didn’t have the menu there at that moment so we went online and looked at the menu. it was supposed to be $69 ( not $96 as charged) for the first 4 dishes. There was no price for drinks. But $17.30 for a teapot and 2 Sodas is Way too much! So I asked them to list the prices. The owner took back the bill and gave me the new one. She rudely told me that that was the wrong one. The correct one is $147 😲($5 over charged me for the last item $27.90 which was finally fixed to 22.90 ) Everything in the new bill is one dollar extra compared to the menu on the website! she said that was an old menu. That’s fine for me with $1 extra for each dish, but anyway it only adds up $5 extra total. They charged me $96 instead of $74.
Not done yet, now this is the FUNNY part: in the old bill, there was no tax, no gratuity charges. However, when I complained, that RUDE owner with red purple (whatever color) short hair ADDED TAX and GRATUITY 18% to make the total more than the old one . We’ve been there a few times, Tax and gratuity was never charged. She tried to make us regret about complaining. I told her if you wanna charge me for gratuity, you need to mention that in your menu. She mumbled “ every one has their own business”. We didn’t want to WASTE TIME argue with her. The way she talked and treat customers was unacceptable. This restaurant does not deserve to serve any type of customers. We just left and will NEVER EVER come back!!! A note for all current loyal customers: if you like their food, good for her. Just please carefully check your bills before making a payment. If you don’t like the food, try Corner 17. Their food is freshly made in front of you, taste much much better and authentic, prices and the services...

We recently had a disappointing experience at WONTON KING and felt compelled to share our concerns. On our second visit, we encountered OVERCHARGING , POOR SERVICE and DISCRIMINATION behavior. Despite our initial positive experiences, the issues we faced on our latest visit left a sour taste.
⛔️ * Issues with the BILL * :
We were charged $136 for 5 dishes, which seemed excessive. Upon reviewing the bill, we noticed the price wasn't not the same on the menu but instead they fix it, supposed to be less amount than that but they added 18% GRATUITY fee to raise up the price! The bill was later revised to $142, including tax, with no explanation for the increase an 18% gratuity fee for 5 people, including CHILDREN ( ( 3 ADULTS, 2 KIDS - 5 and 10 years old ) , which was not disclosed on the menu. One dish was overcharged, only VEGIES and the owner refused to correct the error, claiming that WATER CHESNUT and SCALLOPs were of equal value.
⛔️ POOR Service and Attitude:
The owner demonstrated a dismissive and unprofessional attitude when we raised our concerns. When we asked about the gratuity fee, the owner responded, "Everyone has their own business!" implying a lack of accountability. The service was UNWELCOMING and DISCRIMINATORY, with a clear bias against Vietnamese and Asian customers.
⛔️ * Too Salty and Unfresh foods this time. We're understanding sometimes foods can't be like what we expected. At the first visit, everything wasn't that bad that why we gave them an 2nd try. Even the foods was too salty today but it wasn't a big deal until they make a mess with BILL and POOR SERVICE.
👉🏻 Recommendation:
If you're seeking authentic Chinese cuisine, consider visiting Corner 17 (Olive Street) or Ginzeng (Clayton) instead. These establishments offer superior service and culinary experiences.
(We're food lover, Asian taste, eat too many authentic Asian restaurants all over US , also in Asia so we know which are good and bad ). If we have no choice, rather not too good foods than BAD service!!!
‼️Conclusion:
We urge customers to be cautious when dining at WONTON KING and to carefully REVIEW their bills. We hope the restaurant will address these issues and improve their service to avoid further negative experiences.
Thank you for reading, and we wish you a better dining...
