China Garden — Restaurant in Upper Allen Township

We have been coming here since we moved to the area a few years ago. Unfortunately, will not be returning due to their extremely sub par customer service. They made a minor error (left out the brown sauce in my tofu and broccoli w/ brown sauce). No big deal. I called to see about getting about getting it fixed. Young man that answered the phone gets snippy with me, "I packaged your order myself; the brown sauce was in it. " "I assure you that it wasn't. I have everything laid out in front of me. " Puts me on hold for a minute then comes back on. "I just watched the video; the brown sauce was in your order." At this point I'm both excited and getting really agitated. "Really, you watched the video? I'd love to see that because I promise you there was no brown sauce in that bag. Can I please just get a replacement?" "Is this a mobile number? I will send it to you." Perfect. About 5 min later a short grainy video comes on of him placing 2 black containers into my bag. I sent him back photos of the contents of those 2 containers, my (sauceless) tofu and broccoli and my husband's boneless spare ribs, then a photo of everything that my bag contained, as well as a comment or two about my disappointment in their customer service. After getting no answer, I call again. The kid answers, still unappolagetic and dismissive. I'm mad, frustrated and annoyed, and I'm hungry. My kids are hungry, my husband is hungry. I insist that he rewatch the video and compare it to the contents of my bag. The container of what he thought was brown sauce was spare ribs. All I want is my sauce (anyone that has had plain steamed tofu surely can relate). I was hung up on twice but finally he rewatches the video. And...... silence. He finally mumbles that he made a mistake. Still, no apology, no prompt offer for correction. Nothing. My appetite for Chinese food is gone. I'm done. I just want my money back. A man gets on the phone and screams at me "you bring back food, you get back money and slams down the phone. " Never even gives me a chance to speak. I returned all of the food, and got my money back. The owner (?) is much kinder in his time but insists on repeating that they watched the video and everything was there. I lost over an hour of my time and still walked away without dinner. Over a container of sauce!?!?

The food is ok. Though I can't say that I'd recommend supporting a business that would be willing to scream at a woman, hang up on me several times, over a container of sauce, as well as lose a long-time customer.

Update: 11PM and I get awoken by a text message from China Garden "We would like to apologize for your order today, we have mistaken it with someone else's..........." If only that could make up for being belittled and dismissed by 3 different employees (even yelled at and hung...

China Garden…I wouldn’t normally review Chinese takeout – but this is an exception

American Chinese food in my opinion has fallen so hard and so fast that it is universally horrid no matter where you go …just about.

I was sort of avoiding this place because at one point I had seen all the negative reviews. The whole west shore area really lacks anything good as far as good Chinese food goes.

I have a friend who asked me to give it a second chance – and I was really surprised. China Garden was really good - I mean it wasn’t fantastic – but it WAS really good.

I got a coconut chicken curry that was wow….good. Loaded with mixed vegetables – and it was spicy and flavorful! We got egg rolls and spring rolls – the Egg rolls were good – prettymuch what you would expect, done well. Spring rolls were teh meh…oh well you cant win them all

There are a few Thai dishes on the menu that look awesome – and I can’t wait to try them!

Prices were reasonable – portions were huge, delivery was fast and friendly. Was able to pay up front for everything on the credit card - excellent!

The quality of the food here really seemed much better than what I have come to expect. There were tons of fresh Asian vegetables – not just chopped celery and carrots.

There were mostly the standard American Chinese dishes on the menu – Generals Toe and his chicken along with the rest – but there are many other interesting combinations that are not typical which I find refreshing

I will be eating here again – and...

I have ordered from here many times. The food is always good and the establishment always presented itself well.

Last evening we ordered a delivery order to our home. When the driver arrived who had a younger person in their vehicle as well, came down my driveway at a high speed. We said something to him. At that moment we heard the younger person, who appeared to be a child, speaking in their language and yelling, assuming he didn't like the fact that we commented on his speed in OUR DRIVEWAY! Thank goodness our children were not out! He backed up, and instead of following our driveway out in reverse decided to turn around in our yard. He then continued to stick his head out the window and SPIT ON OUR CAR!!!!!!!!! I was completely appalled by his actions and in shock that this even happened. We called the restaurant immediately to report this and from what we could get from the person speaking the driver IS THE MANAGER?!?!?!?! This apparently is ok behavior for their associates as well as their manager and I can assure you we will not be dining with them again! It is a shame too because all the other delivery drivers we have had in the past were the nicest people that we tipped well, then this guy decides to treat us like the scum of the earth all because we told him to slow down on our property!!!!!!!! YOU AND YOUR ESTABLISHMENT ARE THE SCUM OF...
