We came from about 40min away because the reviews were 4.5/5 stars. I don't know why our experience was so very different from others.
We ordered 3 hot teas. Instead of the traditional teapot being brought out, 3 mugs were produced already filled with 'tea' that had an odd coffee-ish flavor to it. Each mug ended up being $2.50. I highly recommend skipping the 'tea' if you go.
My family of 3 ordered the all you can eat. We had another couple with up who ordered hot kitchen food. Even though we'd order soup and salads with our 1st round of AYCE, the hot kitchen food came out first. I called one of the many servers over and asked if we could have our soups and salads 1st (not something I've ever had to ask for at any other AYCE). Everything still all came at once, over crowding the table uncomfortably.
The salads were miniscule. The crab salad and the avocado salad were literally just the reg salad with a pinch of crab and 3 cubes of avocado added, respectively. When the plate of sushi rolls was put down I asked the server to identify the rolls for us. She waved her hand over the plate and said, "it's all you can eat". Every roll we ordered, even the rolls that claimed to be made with "crunch" or were tempura battered were oddly mushy -cucumber, fish, rice, nori- everything lacked texture.
We tried to order seconds and my partner commented how the staff does an amazing job at avoiding eye contact when you need something as it was a solid 5 mins before we managed to get someone to take our paper menu for our next round. Finally, we were able to get our order in and recieved some Tempura green beans, shrimp, and sweet potatoes. Up until now the individual items we ordered were smaller than we'd have gotten at other AYCE sushi places, however now the green beans were an over flowing plate full - I'm not sure if they were trying to fill us up, but that would be my guess. The Tempura was crunchy and cooked well. Oki Sushi also offers it as a meal option that one of the others at our table had gotten. It was a great serving size and everything seems good that came out from the hot kitchen foods.
Overall we won't be back for the AYCE or for individual sushi again as it was so unpalatable. If we return we'll probably stick to the hot...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI STOPPED COMING. HERE'S WHY: As the name suggests it's O.K. Not great..not exceptional...just O.K. I usually do the AYCE but as several reviews point out they play games! You will NOT get all of your order, just what they want to give you. In the past few years, things have changed for the worse. Sashimi menu offering has shrunk & is limited. Depending on who you are, sashimi pieces will be cut VERY small. For someone like me, I prefer Sashimi. I have noticed the main waitress takes your order, reviews it, then often yells & barks orders at the sushi chef, in japanese, which most American's don't speak, but its still obvious what she's saying. I've noticed better service handing my order sheet directly to the chefs, while sitting at the sushi counter while she is away, but still, she will come glance at my plate and tell them her thoughts. Things will dramatically change from there! Why offer AYCE if you don't want to do it? Never mind I that I have always tipped 50-75%... So, while the food is OK. Good enough for suburbs here where we don't have much selection...I'm tired of the poor service...I've STOPPED going. Check out their menu, maybe you'll like it. It's not exceptional, it's missing that flair and flavor you'll find at top-notch sushi joints, but it's as the name suggests. Ok. Service however, is LOUSY. No thanks! Hate to post negative review but it's been repeated and long overdue. You've lost a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAs much as I have loved this place for many years, I am that much in a disappointment. A time has come that I might have to find somewhere else to dine in for AYCE sushi. The quality of this place was phenomenal as other people compare this small place in Lansdale to a Michelin starred boutique. I could agree to that until the most recent. The 2nd green bean tempura was uncooked, I felt like I was a rabbit. The quality of sushi and sashimi we ordered was volatile like failing stock market, the white tuna that I had was great on 1st dish, not on the 2nd. The usual ladies that used to work here frequently ask us how things are going. Now there's some intimidating brutes that are great in service, but don't ask us anything, just working in silent and somewhat staring at us, making our experience uncomfortable. The atmosphere is usually neutral, but this particular day wasn't so great as a person who had sat down behind me kept shaking the chair, and I felt uncomfortable. Moreover, there were some seemingly rich Caucasian groups of people who kept talking about politics that added disturbance to our dining. Oki sushi was once the best sushi place, possibly in this entire state of PA, slowly...
