Strawberry Fields Cafe — Restaurant in Urbana

I had a mixed experience of this place. It was suggested by one of my colleagues, and since it was so close to my new place in Urbana, I tried it one weekend. The chicken kabab sandwich was amazing. And they have a lot of items to choose from. The gentleman at the counter explained everything so nicely. I was determined to go back and try everything eventually. So the 3/5 is an average of the 5/5 for this experience, and 1/5 for the next one below.

The next experience was terrible. They were about to close at 8, it was 7.50. I had helped someone move earlier and was really hungry. I entered and asked if they were open, the person at the counter said they were, took my order. After the transaction went through and I left a tip, the boss (a different person) said they will close and cannot make food. Which was still okay with me, but then this chap was not able to reverse the credit card transaction. However he paid me cash after 10 mins of futile attempts.

I did give this place another shot. And the falafel sandwich was good. So I'll probably go in and check their other stuff out sometime later. Remember to ask clearly before you order...

Stopped in on a Sunday. Never had a problem in the past. I ordered tea and my better half and daughter ordered cupcakes. We were left to wait in limbo for over half an hour while the gentlemen running the cafe just disappeared into the back. Nearest I can figure is my better half is covered in tats that could make a biker blush. I've never had bad service at this place on my own. I don't have a tattoo. We basically had enough after watching folks get served who arrived after us and left. Will not be back. There's better options for tea in campus town. Makes me sad though. Really enjoyed this place when I was doing cna classes back in 05. Used to get peach blossom tea when I was a driver 3 years ago. Didn't even see that...

I had a vegan vanilla cupcake, and surprisingly, it tasted really good. It seems they make them in small quantities since there was only one vanilla or chocolate cupcake available. If you plan to order a lot, it's best to call ahead. Next to the place, there's an international supermarket that resembles the commons market, offering a wide range of organic foods. The atmosphere was warm, and the air had a spicy aroma typical of a cultural market. The lady at the counter was friendly, and the service was excellent and humble. The cupcake itself was quite large, and I'm not sure if they provide nutritional information for those who count calories. They also had other homemade foods and miscellaneous...
