Our visit started fine, we chatted with the waiter who seemed to understand us completely. Nothing new, just a typical restaurant date/exploring new area. When it was time to pay, he gave me the rudest and most inappropriate remark that I have ever heard about my accent in all 15 years of living AND working in the US; claiming that he can't understand me at all (when he apparently could before), it must be my accent that's the problem, and, according to him I "have been speaking a lot with my family members in my native language" (which is completely out of scope for a waiter at a Café).

Mind you that I have not said a word about where I was from and whether I even speak to my family.

I was so embarrassed that I couldn't say anything back and neither could my husband (born and raised in the US). We left the restaurant and didn't stay around too much longer as I felt humiliated, as clearly the waiter just didn't HEAR me, but blamed it on my (actually slight, believe it or not) accent. Again, I've lived here over 10 years and literally have never heard someone claim to not understand what I was saying because of my accent.

What was most shocking about this situation is the location of the restaurant - a mountain resort, which logically attracts tourists from all over the world; but is this how the tourists are dealt with? Jeez.

I hope the restaurant management knows that when we discuss this place, this is the story we tell others :) We will be calling and requesting a refund. Please train your staff on tact, an essential skill in customer service.
