I grew up eating pho. I was in Destin for a vacation. And wanted to try pho out that way. This review is for ppl who grew up off it. I ordered pho Tai nam, spring rolls and egg rolls. The eggrolls, were ok, it was soft in the middle like mushy. But being hungry I ate 1, and the sauce definitely, wasnt nuc nam, or i guess their version. Just wasnt up to par with what I'm use to. The springrolls was good, good portion and taste good. Pho....... I don't know if it's a Valparaiso thing, but that broth was not good. Either theiy didn't boil it long enough or season it right. But I'm going to tell it like it is.. I struggled with eating it all.. I ate as much as I could. They gave good portion on meat and noodles. But that broth.. was killing me.. it tasted like fish tank water. I tried to season it up with more hoison or siracha. I even resorted to sugar and fish sauce. But man every single time I sip that broth with my noodles, it reminded me of feeding my uncles Oscar fishes and when the fish ate, it would splash water and that water would hit my mouth, since I was a little kid, I would remember that distinct fish tank water taste... straight nasty... I swear I tried .. but I couldn't eat it all.. I left disappoint and will never come back there again. I know what good pho taste like.. I know what great pho taste like... now I know what nasty pho taste like..... maybe it's just the area or maybe it's the water... but each...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to dine at Pho Nguyen Vietnamese Noodle Restaurant, and I must say that my experience was a mixed bag. The restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere, and the service was friendly and efficient, creating a pleasant dining environment.
However, I couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed with the dish I ordered, the Shrimp Chicken Fried Rice. The presentation was decent, portions were good, but the taste left much to be desired. The chicken in the dish seemed to be overcooked, giving it a slightly dry and boiled texture. This made it less enjoyable than I had hoped for. The shrimp also had a mushy texture, which was not very appealing.
What disappointed me the most was the overall flavor of the dish. It lacked the vibrant and bold flavors that I associate with Vietnamese cuisine. The dish, in general, tasted rather bland and was missing the harmonious balance of spices and seasonings that I had anticipated.
While I believe that every restaurant can have its off days, I'm might be open to giving Pho Nguyen another chance in the future. The restaurant's ambiance and service were pleasant, and it's possible that other menu items may better showcase their culinary expertise. Despite my experience with the Shrimp Chicken Fried Rice, I'm hopeful that other dishes at Pho Nguyen could still deliver an authentic and flavorful Vietnamese...
Read moreMaybe I am spoiled by the pho back in Denver and California where there are so many pho joints that they actually have to be good to earn a high review rating . But this place certainly did not live up to the high expectations I had considering the high reviews. Where do I start...they do not close at 7 as advertised. They lock their doors by 630 pm, causing us to come back another night. I ordered tea for us as soon as we sat down. That took over five minutes to arrive and it was lukewarm, at best. We ordered a pho noodle dish and asked for "veggie broth" which is a non beef based broth that is peppery, spicy, and most importantly very popular at any good pho restaurant. The dish arrived literally with vegetables in a beef broth such as cabbage and carrots. It was just disappointing. And to top it off, we asked about a military discount and the incredibly inappropriate response?...
