The food was bland, service wasn't great. We had a party of six, including an elderly couple and a small child. When the waitress took our order, she seemed friendly at first and knew a good bit of the menu, although it would have been nice to hear the specials before we ordered instead of when we're almost done. It would have been nice to all eat together too. Our food came out at very different times. My grandmother got her dish first and it was a good 10 mins before the next plate came out. The last of us to get our food was the 2 year old in our party, who ordered a grilled cheese and fries...come on...you couldn't grill a sandwich and fry the fries first? To make matters worse, my husband went to bathroom while we were waiting for our food, and witnessed the cook eating WHILE preparing our food. I'm pretty sure that's a no-no in a restaurant kitchen. No wonder it took our food so long...cook had to make theirs first. And when asked for tartar sauce, our waitress snapped at my grandmother, "it's right there!", and pointed to packets on the table as she rolled her eyes. Definitely won't visit this diner again....

The food is ok, my dad loves it. My wife has pretty strict dietary restrictions and there is almost nothing on their menu that she can eat. On our last visit they had vegetable soup on the menu and my wife thought she had found something that would work for her, she even asked the waitress to verify that there was no beef in it, just vegetable soup and was told, "yep, just vegetable soup." So she ordered the soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. When the soup came out it was chock full of ground beef. as soon as the waitress sat it on the table I laughed and my wife was hot. The waitress looked confused so I said, "that's ground beef in the soup." She said, "yes but its vegetable soup." I wife explained that she can't eat beef, which is why she asked about it when she ordered it. They took it off the tab, but by then it would have taken too long to order something else so she settled for the grilled cheese. With that being said, my...

They have stellar cheese biscuits is the only place in two counties that has the best homemade cheese biscuits.. the staff are very accommodating and stay on top of making sure your drinks are filled and you have everything else you need they are very polite and don't have that look on their face I hate my job. I don't know if this goes for anyone else but when I go to Burger King or McDonald's or anywhere else usually to get food I always get these looks like I hate my job or are you seriously asking for this or are you asking for that yes I'm paying for it so I want what I want and I don't get that attitude or ugly I hate my job type of face from the very kind staff here at Vera's. They also have the best almost like homemade meals I haven't gotten anything I didn't like from Vera's it's wheelchair accessible the seating options are pretty good you're not on top of everybody else why do you say so myself I give this...

Wanting dinner. Not sure where. Googled restaurants in Vanceboro. Discovered Vera's Diner. Perused the menu and hit the road. You'll miss it, if you don't take your time to look for it. Nondescript building...belies the delicious bounty awaiting your taste buds. I ordered the SMALL platter of: Oysters, scallops, and shrimp... fried...I usually get my seafood pan seared or steamed. The coating was more of a dusting of light cornmeal. Everything was cooked perfectly. The oysters exploded with estuary sweet brine flavor; the scallops were nearly the size of a 50¢ piece...sweet and tender; and the shrimp, larger than Calabash, but smaller than cocktail, sweet and delicious; AND LOCAL! Had a salad & Cole slaw as sides. So much of my sea delicacies were left over, I had seconds the next day. Vera's serves Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Open Monday-Saturday. Highway 43, in Vanceboro, NC. I need to check out their Breakfast. 😉🥯🥞🧇🍳🥓☕

This review is on behalf of my 7 year old daughter. She wanted to come leave a review for everyone to know about. Today we went in to pick up a to go order and while waiting my daughter tried the claw machine they have in the dining room. After 2 failed attempts one of the waitresses handed her more change to try again. After that failed attempt the waitresses went and got her a small stuffed animal and gave it to her. My daughter thanked her and went out the happiest kid ever. Fast forward 5 hours and she wanted me to let everyone know how “kind” the waitress is at Vera’s Diner. 😊 it is very family friendly and we definitely recommend if you are coming through our small town to stop by and enjoy a plate of food from their “kind” staff 🫶🏻

Good ol southern comfort food served here. When you first walk in you will be greeted with a smile and friendly folks. It's no Taj Mahal here. The furnishing and decor are certainly dated BUT.... that's part of the ambiance. All the wait staff greets everyone with yes sir, no sir, yes ma'am, no ma'am. This was my first time here. The fried pork chops and gravy were juicy and tender. Delicious. The service was fast, friendly and down to earth. This place has apparently been here nearly 70yrs and I can certainly see why. Yep.. it's a mom and pop "hole in the wall" but you're gonna want to make it a regular stop. Small town southern cooking, service and people at its finest.
