I stopped in and had the chopped steak and eggs with rye toast, and it was everything I hoped for—delicious, well-prepared, and served hot. The food was cooked perfectly, and the flavors made it clear this place takes pride in what they serve.

The atmosphere was welcoming and cozy, making it a great spot for a laid-back meal. It feels like a place where regulars and newcomers alike are treated with the same friendly vibe.

The service was equally impressive. My waitress, Hanna, was new to the job but handled everything like a pro. She was quick, efficient, and attentive without being overbearing. I can tell she has a bright future ahead in customer service!

We stopped at Max's as we drove from St. Louis to Chicago. What a find! This is a spacious, inviting, super-clean diner (nice restrooms, too). The service was friendly and attentive, and the coffee was perfect. My husband ordered the ribeye with eggs, hash browns & gravy. Delicious (I may have snagged a few bites of his steak when he wasn't looking). I ordered a tasty breakfast sandwich on a croissant -- breakfast heaven. Housemade tortillas were also on offer (I was too slow to get a taste -- DH gobbled them right up). We will be back. Thank you to our server Alex who helped make this such a wonderful breakfast! The food was absolutely wonderful! The baked potato was fresh and large and accompanied with a generous serving of butter and sour cream. The walleye was excellent, cooked to perfection. When we asked to speak to the Cook to make sure of how it was prepared he was very kind and came out and spoke with us. The grilled vegetables again were of a large portion and delicious.
