His iconic, fancier local restaurant is some place that brings you to mind about the quality of his proper cooked food & management. He is seen doing all of his dedicated work every time you come in. Sure, he's the owner of Craig's Kitchen and he's on duty to make sure that everything's cooked right, however, do you think it's good or bad?...
It's soul food, and what you expect on the menu if you're at a soul food restaurant (the only restaurant of its kind in town, but I'm pretty sure there are others in the state but not quite else in the neck of my woods.) shall include fried chicken, oriented vegetables, pork, etc...
So, I came here Saturday (December 28, 2019) and I received the fried chicken & waffle combination + fries. The chicken isn't any better than the one you get at KFC or the entree set of fried chicken sold exclusively in Stop & Shop stores but it's okay. The belgian waffles taste fine. The fries aren't as salty but good with ketchup.
I first stopped by for his food during the Rockville Fest event 2 years earlier but after a long hiatus, I decided to try it again and see how it went? First of all, I thought his food was good upon my first visit but when I came back 2 years later... still okay! I would probably risk coming back again very soon, after all!
Quick bio about him: He learned how to cook soul food from his grandmother, was from Michigan, moved to Connecticut, and was a Rockville High graduate some years ago, then in June of 2017, he opened his first restaurant in the downtown section...
Read moreWas Trying to decide on what we wanted to eat. Then it hit me. Why not try that new to us but old to everyone else soulfood place called Craig's Kitchen. Best decision we made that day. They have been around for about 6 years but I came across it on Facebook within the last few weeks.
We ordered Bbq Ribs with Collard Greens, Mac & Cheese, Smothered Chicken, Bbq Chicken with Rice, Mac & Cheese and Corn. For dessert there was Peach Cobbler and Chocolate Cake. Overall, the food was delicious and very filling. However, let me tell you about the Peach Cobbler. That was my very FRIST time trying it, and it changed my life as that will not be my last. The potion sizes were very generous and we had leftovers. It tasted even better a day later. The meals also came with Cornbread Poppers as I called them and Coleslaw. Apparently. Potatoes salad was also purchased but I got none.
It's located in the center of or downtown Vernon-Rockville. We went at night time so I really could describe the area that well. However, the restaurant is ground level so wheelchair accessible. They do have an inside seating area that has a lot of potential. The own and the person working with him were very friendly and kind. They make their own drinks that looked delicious and colorful. It's about a 20 mins or so drive from the current area we were at.
Overall, a great experience and we will be going back. As we were not disappointed. Other customers were talking about how good the food was and they...
Read moreLet me start off by saying that I really, REALLY want to love this place. Ordered with door dash the first time, got a call that none of the sides I wanted were available, as in no longer being served, so there was some frustration with the out-of-date menu for a place that hasn't even been around long. The food was O.K. and I wrote it off as a delivery issue (the driver got lost so the food was cold). Decided to try again for brunch one day, as it is listed as a breakfast/lunch establishment. We went at about 10:30 and couldn't get breakfast. Everyone got chicken and waffles, which ended up being two small pieces of chicken and a less than satisfying waffle. No sides came with it, even though with door dash, at the same price, it came with sides. The chicken was anything but fresh. It had a really funky almost soured taste that wasn't setting well. I can eat about anything, and this was the second time to memory that I left food at a table. Even the small amount I ate left me feeling unwell the remainder of the day.
I will make no disparaging remarks about the storefront itself. It is simple, settings are plastic and it has a "summer BBQ"-type feel to it. Set up is a little strange, but has character.
It may have just been two off days, but the experiences were underwhelming at best, and sickening at worst. I will never say not to go to an establishment because of one person's experience, but it is probably safer to order delivery, and maybe avoid a...
