This review is based on my experience and in no way am I trying to bring a business down. But there are a few things I want to share. I believe that energy is everything and the energy you bring to the meals you prepare is everything.
To start, the Chef didn’t seem like he was in a good mood. He seemed bothered that I came in while he was making food for a large group. He put emphasis on the fact that the food would take 20 minutes to prepare, which I didn’t mind at all. The woman taking my order seemed nice but some of her comments thru me off, and it made me want to leave. I chose to stay against my gut feeling cuz I wanted to give them a chance.
What I liked: I liked the rice. It was rich in flavor and I could see myself enjoying a bowl of it. I also appreciate the way in which the burrito was wrapped. Those are some skills. The marinade on the hibiscus flower was also tasty.
However, there was a lot more that I didnt like. I ordered the jackfruit chicken burrito. The jackfruit tasted too much like brine and it was not properly shredded. The flavor was bland. I was also disappointed they skimped me on the shredded mushroom and cashew cheese that came with my pretty slim birria taco. The amount of protein I was given was the bare minimum. The corn tortilla was also not purple corn like on the menu, and I was also given very very little cabbage . Overall, I felt disappointed as I had high hopes for this spot. This Mexican food menu I am familiar with since it's not a new concept, and I thought I’d give it a shot. I was bummed at the lack of love the chef put into to the meal he...
Read moreI'm still fairly new to the whole vegan thing. I've tried a few places and was pleasantly surprised. Today (9/9), my daughter and I stumbled upon The Vegan Vato. The food here was absolutely incredible. I ordered the taco trio and my daughter had a Chorizo burrito that was longer than MY forearm. For my trio, I had the asada, pollo and fish. That was also the order I started eating them in. For starters, I struggled to pick up the taco. It was huge. I'm so thankful that forks were brought out. Anyway! The asada was very flavorful. Then I started eating the pollo and couldn't believe my taste buds. It was even better than the asada. I asked my daughter how she liked her chorizo burrito and she was at a loss for works. She couldn't (wouldn't) stop eating long enough to tell me what she thought. Then I went in on the fish and man listen to me, the fish was better than the other 2. I don't even like mushrooms but I'll do it again and again because it was that good. Now I have to try to chorizo the see if it can top the fish.
Vegan Vato, whoever came up with those creations, is a genius! Can you move to somewhere on Bear Valley, maybe stay open a little longer? I really enjoyed the food and need to share my experience...
