Grace Coffee Cottage Grove — Restaurant in Village of Cottage Grove

I've been hesitant to write a poor review since I want this location to succeed (5 minutes from my home). When everything goes right, we like this place. But after several poor experiences, I need to put this out there and hopefully see improvement in the future.

We mostly web order for pick-up while we're on the go or working from home, and it has been a sad experience since they opened. It's never overly busy in the cafe, but no one typically acknowledges us when we arrive. If the food or drinks aren't ready, that leads to several minutes of the cashier/barista doing anything but look at us while we awkwardly wait next to the counter without being greeted. Speaking of waits, orders are seldom ready at your estimated pick-up time, and several times the extra wait has exceeded 20 minutes. These aren't orders with multiple hot brunch items and espresso beverages, they're a couple of flavored cold brews and some bakery items - and web ordering bakery items is a crapshoot. At one point we ordered a samoa scone, only to arrive and be told they hadn't had them in months. The beverages and food are pricey and inconsistent. For example, today (which is what finally spurred me to write a review) we ordered an iced matcha and a hot latte - both were made iced, and when it was pointed out, they remade the hot latte but it was just over half full. We also ordered a lox bagel, and for $14 it was a dried out bagel, one thin piece of lox, and a tablespoon of cream cheese spread as thin as butter on one half. We were also missing an order of hashbrowns, which upon showing the receipt in the app they proceeded to make. $40 for a bagel, a side, and two drinks to treat ourselves on a Friday was just.. meh.

We'll continue coming since we know Grace is a local company and we've had great experiences at other locations, but we really hope...

Let me start by saying. I LOVE Grace Coffee. I go to the Sun Prairie location everyday before work and I go to this Cottage Grove Location literally 1-2 times every weekend. So it’s taken me a long time to even put this review in. But I’ve put in the hours. I’m disappointed in the Cottage Grove Location for a few reasons. Almost every time I order and come to pick up no one really says anything to you… okay whatever. If I make the mistake of not tipping because it’s at the bottom and it doesn’t have an automatic scroll down feature so I order without tipping. That’s on me. But I most always tip the 25%. I’ve noticed if I don’t, my drink comes out sugar free. And trust me you can tell the difference. This happens every time I forget to tip. I’m not lying. It’s crazy. But I’m like okay it could be a mistake. (Doubt it) This was probably the IT for me. I order a 16oz hot latte triple shot. The cup isn’t even filled up. it’s half full and the pictures will show. I took 1 sip to taste it and realized the cup was really light weight.

I’m not the type to go back inside and ask for another one or anything like that and I feel like there’s a lot of people that don’t want to go in and ruin those workers day by complaining about coffee. But I spend a lot of money here and it’s disappointing that it happens so regularly. The girls are nice when you approach them to ask for something. But I feel like this happens a lot to me. I mobile order all the time and always arrive after pick up time so not to rush the process.

I probably won’t be going to this location anymore. Which is unfortunate because of how close it is to my house. Grace Coffee is wonderful and all the locations I’ve been to are great. I’m sorry for having to write this review on this location. (Photo was taken 5 minutes after...

First I would like to start off with saying that I am a frequent flyer at the Sun Prairie Location and recently had my first visit at this location and I will NEVER be coming back again! First I would like to start by sharing that it was not NEARLY as busy as the sp location, which is why my experience was that much more frustrating!

I stood in front of the order spot for 5 min without zero acknowledgment. The girl behind the counter was clearly not busy as she was just picking up random things to do as I was clearly ready to order…at one point I thought I was standing in wrong spot. I ordered an açaí bowl, which I typically order at the sp location and never have I EVER waited longer than 5 min for one. At this location I easily waited 30 min. The place was not busy as mentioned there were maybe 5 guests there. At one point I go up to ask about the status of my order as I have never waited this long for one (we also ordered to-go) the staff doesn’t apologize even and just says they are just backed up with orders ….which I can understand in any other given situation. As I mentioned, there were 6 guests and after looking around, most of them had their orders so my apologies if I was confused. The point is that the staff did not care that I was frustrated about my order as I did not get a status on how much longer my order will take. Then the cherry on top…reason number 3 I will not be returning is that when all this is happening, the girl behind the counter is just sitting on her phone!!! Very frustrating when you have been waiting for a Simple order for 30 min and they are doing nothing but sitting on their phone!! With that being said, I will NEVER be returning there!
