I'm originally from Cedarburg but moved to Germantown about a year ago. In that year, I have been to Robert's several times. I was very excited to live near this place as they are known for being a local staple. The first time I went, I ordered the chicken tenders. When they arrived, they were not tenders, but were chicken "nuggets". Small chunks of chicken. Not "tenders" as advertised. They were horribly dry, small chunks of breading with a little bit of chicken in the middle. Nasty. Lower in quality than frozen Tyson chicken nuggets you'd find in a bag in the frozen aisle at Pick N Save.
I figured I would give the place another shot and came back with a friend for custard a month or so later. Since everyone is familiar with Culver's custard, I will compare the two. Robert's custard is not as thick, it's much sweeter, and has a stronger vanilla taste. This could be personal preference, but I definitely prefer Culver's custard. Much thicker and creamier. My friend I was with agreed that the custard was not up to par with Culver's.
Well, I didn't come back for quite some time after that, but just finally gave the place a third chance tonight. I ordered a double cheeseburger with raw onions, pickles, ketchup, and mustard, as well as cheese fries. I got home, and there was no cheese in the bag. The fries are horribly over-salted. I'm typing this as I'm eating them. I think I'll just throw them in the trash. The burger is terrible. The bun sucks, and the onions are chopped so thick, I think there's more onion in each bite than burger meat itself. The burger meat has that "microwaved" flavor to it. You know what I mean if you've ever microwaved a burger that you grilled the day before. I'd honestly rather eat a McDonald's quarter pounder.
I feel bad writing this review, as I follow Robert's on Facebook and they seem to be nice people that stay engaged with the community. But the reality is, the food is terrible and is expensive. You get better value for your money at McDonald's across the street. And if you want a step up in quality, head over to Culver's. Fix the above issues and Robert's has a lot of potential to elevate as a great local staple like Wayne's in Cedarburg or even Culver's. I wish this place the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe've been here before but what an experience today. I thought it was me trying to explain a 2 flavor 2 scoop dish of custard wrongly. I told another person in our party to explain it better than I thought i did. He explained it, and it took 4 times before the lady taking the order to sort of understand. She kept repeating it wrong as she didn't understand. THEN, our 2 scoops looked like 1 scoop. I took them back up to her and asked if it was 2 scoops. She said if she added another scoop it would be 3 scoops. Totally missed the entire point of it all. She said the vanilla scoop was under the strawberry one. Really? She should have dumped the ice cream and started fresh or called the manager who helped her enter the order. I saw other orders, single scoops, passing by our table, and the single scoop custard was towering over the top of the dish. I know this because there are different size dishes depending on how many scoops are requested. All 3 of our 3 2-scoop dishes all looked like single scoops. At $4.99 each, pretty crazy. Geez, ya can't even go out and have ice cream without an issue. I believe the lady was new as she needed help to enter the order into the computer. I normally don't take the time to write a review over ice cream, but the 3 of us just shook our heads over this.
The simplicity of taking an order, filling the order, and the attitude when approached about my discontent was just ridiculous!
Besides that, the custard didnt taste like custard today. Very thin and soft. We've had better there before. Overall disappointing that I felt the need to write a review. I won't call the place as I'm not interested in returning any time soon. Shouldn't have been so difficult to get a dish of custard today. That's all I'm...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhile this place was pretty at a glance. We were not pleased. The kids said the ice cream was good but not the best they have had. But they seemed to finish all just fine š We ordered a burger and onion rings to split, because they have higher prices we thought the " Giant Burger" sounded great. Unfortunately it was not a giant burger and it was not cooked. It seemed like a smash burger ( like Culver's style burger , real thin) but the burger was not cooked through. Like , at all. So def not our thing. We didn't even understand how such a thin patty had no char or was still red all the way through and cold. There was so much condiments on the burger we couldn't taste anything else. And the bun was the only giant part about this Burger. The onion rings were ok. The soup was bland. Something you'd find at an old folks home I think. Just no flavor and seemed like it was sitting there for a long time already. It looks like someone cared for this place for a while and then didn't want to put any more money into it... The architecture and interior design were lovely but the interior is unkempt. It still felt very fast food like and we left not finishing our food. Which was terrible since we were so hungry. But the kids had their ice cream so they were happy. The bathrooms were ok. But like the rest of the place , this building could use a skilled cleaning person to come along and lend a hand. We will not be going...
