Went to dinner at Beast and Bird for the first time last night. To be honest, I hadn't heard of this new restaurant and really didn't know what to expect. Our party of 4 showed up on Saturday around 5:30 with no reservations, and the parking lot was packed! We were immediately greeted and seated by our server, I believe her name was Kelsey, and let me tell you, she was amazing! She asked if we had been the before to which we told her we had not. She happily went over the beer taps and drink menu followed by the food selections. Using a hand held order device, she had our drink orders being prepared and ready as we were ordering our food...great optimization of time! My brother in law ordered an old fashioned, my husband a beer, my sis in law a captain and diet and I asked if they offered moscow mules as I didn't see it on the menu. Very quietly, our server said we do, but its VIP and only offered upon request...too funny! Best cherry lime mule I've ever had! Three of us ordered the first special that was offered, a very large baked potato, topped with seasoned butter, your choice of mac n cheese or cheesy potatoes and your choice of brisket, chicken or pulled pork. Three of us opted for the potato topped with mac n cheese and brisket, which also comes with the house made barbecue sauce. I'm not a mac n cheese fan, so when I tell you this was good...it was PHENOMENAL! My sister in law ordered the mac n cheese brisket bowl which was equally as good! During dinner, the guys each ordered a 2nd drink and for the four of us, our meals and drinks together were less than $100. I definitely give Beast and Bird 5 out of stars! Great service, great food and we hope they stick around! We will definitely be back! Well done Beast and...
Read moreTried it for the first time - the food was great and our waitress was so personable and kind. They were out of their special (burnt ends), but the pulled pork & brisket that we got was so good I wasn't left feeling like I missed out.
The sauces they have are very unique and not like those I've tried elsewhere- one is mustard based and tastes like a Dijon mustard with a kick (my favorite one), other is vinegar & very watery but paired perfectly with the brisket (husband's fav), & the last is more of your typical BBQ with a sweet hint to it (our daughter's favorite).
We got the Trifecta for 2 with corn bread, Mac and Cheese, & cheesy potatoes. That alone feed us + our 4 year old. The Mac and Cheese was great and you could taste the smokiness but it wasn't overly smokey. That was our daughter's "meal" but once she had a taste of the brisket it was game over and she devoured it! Cheesy potatoes were good too, another review said they were very salty but I didn't think so at all. The cornbread was great, another review said they needed butter with it but I disagree - this reminds me of corn casserole you get around Thanksgiving and not the typical dry cornbread. Different but very good
Our waitress was so kind and patient and gave us great explanations and suggestions. There was a big party going on (graduation I think) but that didn't affect our service, the cleanliness of the restaraunt, or the pace in which we received our food.
We can't wait to come back and will definitely make the drive if we see they are having the loaded baked...
Read moreWow! I heard this place was good and I have had food off their food truck but I was blown away! We got the trifecta. It says for two but three could easily get full off it. We had brisket, pulled pork and chicken. The smoke ring on the brisket was beautiful and it was moist and delicious. The pulled pork was definitely mouth watering. I’m not a huge chicken fan but that was the first to disappear. For sides we had the Mac, cheesy potatoes and corn bread. It’s really hard to find cornbread at a restaurant that isn’t dry. Beast & Bird figured out how to make sure this doesn’t happen! And I have always been a fan of their Mac and cheese and the cheesy potatoes but they give you so much that we brought some home and here I am having them for breakfast! Now talk about the price! I honestly don’t know how they can stay in business. For the amount of food the we got, I would expect to pay at least 40% more than what we paid. If you want some of NE Iowa’s BEST BBQ at a price you can’t say no to then you definitely want to make the very worthwhile trip to Beast & Bird in Vinton! Excellent job Logan and team! Yall...
