Oh it is a CRIME that I haven't done a review here. If you know me, you know this is one of my comfort spots. Koco Korean hasn't been here too long, but has made a lasting impression already. It has a very family oriented vibe, with a modern twist inside. They're best known for their KFC, Vietnamese coffee, and croffles...may I say it's well deserved that they're known for it because baby they do it right! If I could hook the Vietnamese coffee with extra condensed milk into my blood stream I'd go for it! Lol I know that's extra, but I just love it so much. Not overly strong, very sweet and creamy, and somehow they put the perfect amount of ice for me. I'm an ice queen okay and I think the perfect drink includes the right amount of ice. Whenever I come in for it, they always know about me needing my extra condensed milk and they look out for me! I also am I huge fan of their dumplings! Very underrated as I feel like people go in places wanting a specific thing and don't search around. These dumplings are a gem! Perfectly crispy every time, with a light teriyaki sauce on that gives a perfect crunch with a sticky yummy sweet touch to it. While I'm discussing that let me get into the corn dogs! PERFECTION. If you aren't aware in Korean culture the mixture of sweet and salty is very popular and also very a delicious. My boyfriend is Korean, and when I tell you he indulges every time and it makes him feel so happy as there aren't many places here that sell Korean corn dogs, especially to this caliber. That crunch when you bite into it that leads to a gooey, salty, melty cheese pull that just really is an experience in itself. Then you get that treat of the sausage at the bottom that I get excited for every time. I've seen mixed reviews on Korean corn dogs in general but I think it seems to be a cultural difference because I've seen people confused about the sugar and it's like...wake up! Different cultures do different things, experience something new! This take on an old fashion Korean dog is not only delicious, but fun and worth giving a try! My boyfriend swears by the lumpia. If we're ever near be immediately stops in and runs to the order kiosk lol. The kfc is always very yummy. I've gotten it couple times and I just love love love well fried chicken. It's a part of my culture, I was raised on soul food/fried chicken, so it's fun to enjoy other versions. Im a huge fan of Korean fried chicken, and theirs is no exception because I am a FAN. Crunchy, covered in a sweet salty sauce, and always I mean always fresh! You can't beat that. Quick Korean fried chicken? Sign me up. One thing I really want to mention is just how kind and friendly they are. Whenever I come in I'm always greeted with a smile, or spoken to. A lot of the people there are often hard working in the back, but always come out and say hi! It feels like family, and nothing I hold more close than food and family. Sometimes I even am offered samples to try of things they're working on or thinking of adding...I mean come on could a place be more close knit and sweet with their customers? Why don't more places do that to truly get a feel of what the community wants to eat? It's brilliant. It tells me that to them the community matters, and their voice is important even in making food decisions in their store. How could you not feel special as s customer here? This place is a beautiful, simple, and enjoyable place for a quick meal or just to sit and enjoy. I am very grateful they're here, and will continue to be a loyal customer. I was beyond ecstatic to write this because this place is just one...
Read moreFirst time trying this place and was very surprised by how delicious the food was! Never had a croffle before and I recommend everyone try this place at least once! Definitely coming back to try some of their savory croffle options! Suggested by my brother (we are locals in the vb area) - croffles (croissant/waffles) never heard of it so decided to give it a go. Did the combo option - chicken (either soy or spicy) and a sweet croffle (different flavors, I got the ube and bro got the strawberries and cream) both absolutely delicious! The cream itself was nice and silky and was not overly sweet and the croffle had a nice glaze and had a light sweetness to it. It was surprisingly soft and crunchy! The chicken is super crispy and has a nice flavor to it. It also comes with a croffle which tastes so good. A nice combination of sweet and salty. Drink options vary, they have cold brew, horchata, Vietnamese coffee, matcha, shakes, soda. I got the Vietnamese coffee (tastes amazing) and bro got strawberries and cream and that was also very tasty! We got lumpia (6 pieces, nicely seasoned and was a nice portion size for the price). The wrapper is a little thick for me, I prefer thinner lumpia wraps. I feel like the prices were ok. Did spend over 50 plus tip so overall total was 60. There are other options where you would be spending about 10 per person just depending on what you order. The place was clean! There are 2 kiosks where you would order your food. They are at the front to the left when you first walk in. Napkins/Utensils are towards the back where the soda machine is at, and further down is the bathrooms. Also, set up for tables is like a cafeteria style where there are long tables and chairs - so you could potentially be sitting next to other people if it's crowded. Bathrooms are clean as well. They say your name when your order is ready - if it was busy and noisy that might become a problem trying to listen for your name. They might want to implement a number system where instead of typing in your name, you type in a number (supply number cards at the kiosk), and keep your number next to you on some sort of stand so the employees can see what orders belong to what table or person. That might help with some confusion if it gets busy and loud. (Just a suggestion) But overall, experience was great! Definitely coming back and will be recommending to other friends and family. Croffles are the way to go! - Please note that this is my personal opinion. My brother's friend recommended this place to him due to the Vegan options they have as well. So, they are...
Read moreAn overall 4.5-star review and experience. Located within the Wayside Village Shoppes in Virginia Beach, parking is shared among other adjacent businesses. If you drive past Aldi's, you've gone too far.
When you walk in, you'll notice a pair of kiosks in the corner with a menu hanging overhead. Super convenient right? What is not advertised and or discussed is that there is a $0.50 service charge added to your tab when you use the kiosks to place your order. I am confused because during my visit, there was one person who was actively preparing orders and no one tells you that you can order with the cashier with no additional fee imposed. She actually encouraged me to order via the kiosk but when asked what the service fee is for, she didn't know and had to wait until someone who did was able to disclose it. Essentially, it's a technology fee to perhaps pay for having the kiosks in place. It's not straightforward and is deceptive. Imagine how many people have ordered via the kiosk and never noticed they were being charged.
There was a Yelp check-in offer I used during my visit. When you buy 5 croffles, you get 1 free. For this, you have to tell the person behind the counter and they'll add it to your order. My croffles were fresh as were the toppings I requested.
Clean interior but the soda machine had many out-of-order signs on multiple flavor options. There are two bathrooms for women and men. However, the rear exit and men's room were blocked with what appeared to be AC parts on a cart limiting use to one bathroom and making the emergency exit impassable.
My food came out within ten minutes and tasted good. I found the portion to be sufficient and the temperature adequate. Seating is long tables with chairs and can support group dining. There is a sink near the trash can should you want to wash your hands before or after your meal.
Sorry, no promotions or discounts were available when I inquired. If in the area, I would consider...
