This was our second time at this place. The first time we went we waited 1hr and second time we waited 1hr30mins. We knew we were going to wait and brought a board game with us to play and spend time. But it’s just ridiculous how long it takes for them to get people seated. After we sat down, our server came to our table three times throughout the service. Once to take our drinks order, then to take our food order and lastly for the check. She didn’t deliver our meal nor did she check on us if we wanted/needed anything else. She didn’t even bring us a bag with the togo boxes. The food also took forever to come too. We got there at 11:45AM, after a long wait, we finally got our food at 2:15PM! And we were done eating at 2:30PM. So I wonder if the food is that much worth the wait, especially if we were going to be done in 15-20mins. I don’t think it is worth! The latte flight is $17… extremely sweet. It’s like four sugar shots. The biscuits were very dense. My shrimp omelette was good but I had some leftovers and today as I am eating my leftovers at home, I see hair in my food. My friends said their food was good but definitely not the worth the wait. You can get same good food somewhere else too. There is nothing exclusive! So I don’t think we will be going back. Worst thing about all this was that no one.. literally none of the staff said we apologize for the delay. Delay while waiting for table is one thing but our food took forever too but our server was a no show and no regrets for this delay. This is after they pre-charge 18% gratuity. They act entitled because they know they are popular and have good ratings online. So people show up. But I feel their good ratings are mostly related to the whole façade of ‘cute brunch insta-worthy place’ that people like to show off about on the internet. I don’t think they have anything special to offer that requires that amount of time waste. Another service I think is unnecessary is the valet service. Our car was literally parked next to the valet service booth. They could easily do directed parking. But it’s another way of making money in tips. I didn’t write a review the first time we visited because we atleast enjoyed the food. But the second time it was just an overall disappointing experience… the wait, the food, the attitude of staff. Felt like a rip off. And you are right, no one asked us to go back and wait for so long. We could have just left. But like I said in the beginning of my review, the wait was expected and we went prepared. What I am upset or disappointed about is that the overall experience, and most importantly the attitude of the staff and the food which is good but definitely not worth the wait for sooo long! They just keep getting popular because people keep praising this mediocre service that is sold as exclusive experience so I felt the need to offer a different perspective! Maybe if people didn’t entertain this, they would get better with their attitude a bit. I usually don’t like to write bad reviews as I know that it’s someone’s bread and butter. I either write good reviews or none at all. That’s why I skipped it during first visit but the second visit made it annoying enough for me to spend some time jotting down my thoughts. You can choose to...
Read moreThe Bee and the Biscuit is located along Princess Anne Rd. in the Pungo section of Virginia Beach. It's just a little south of the Pungo traffic light (Princess Anne Rd. and Indian River Rd.). My visit here was on December 20, 2022.
First things first. You have to park. The path is one way. All parking there is valet, so if you don't want to use or tip for valet, you may want to look at parking over at the Pungo Square Shopping Center and walking over there. After parking is settled, you can walk up to just before the entrance to get seated with the host/hostess. One thing of note is that groups of 8 or more will be split up due to the limited amount of space here, unless reserved for the private room, which is limited to 12.
My visit here on December 20, 2022 was a holiday lunch with our group at work, so we had the private room. Once I let the hostess know that I was here with the company I work at, she knew where to go. A few others in the group were right behind me too. The place was definitely buzzing with excitement that day as I was walking over to the private room.
Once I got into the room, it was nice to see everyone again, since we all work remotely. After a few minutes, the server came back in and asked those of us that had come in what we wanted to get to drink. They serve Pepsi products, so I went with a Pepsi this time. After the drinks came, the last few we were waiting on arrived, so the group was whole again.
We had some time to talk with each other before ordering. It also gave us some time to look over the menu to choose. You could choose from the breakfast or lunch menu. When it was time to order, I ended up going with the Better Cheddar Roast Beef Sandwich with chips. After ordering, we all went back to chatting and such.
After about 10 to 15 minutes, the food started coming out to the table. I knew it would be longer than normal as the place was filled when we were in there. As the food came out, each of the different items looked really good. In due time, the Better Cheddar Roast Beef sandwich with chips came out for me. Once everyone got their entrées, it was time to dig in. The Better Cheddar Roast Beef was really good. The flavor was good, along with the items in it that complemented the sandwich. The chips were good too, and I think they may have been homemade chips. After eating, we had our gift exchange for those that participated in it. Once that was done, we sat around and talked with each other and also got a coffee or a cinnamon roll.
Overall, this was a very good first experience coming here. I've passed it many times over the years, but just never made it in there until this time. Both the food and service were on point. They did extremely well with a full house in there that day. If you are looking for a brunch type of place down in the Pungo area of Virginia Beach, this place is worth...
Read moreHad heard about the hype of dining at this restaurant and have been curious to visit the place and took my family there. First off, the place is so tiny, not that I had any expectations about this feature, it’s just something I noticed. Second, for whoever decides to eat there (first-timers), prepare to get bored while waiting extensively. To be fair, upon my arrival I was told there was an hour of wait time, however being this not the first time I have been told there’s a wait time in different restaurants, pleasantly I’ve found out that their wait time was never what they told, it was much shorter. Anyway, in this case turned out to be true. One hour and five minutes of wait time, to be more precise. Would I do it again? No! Do I think it was worth it? No!
We finally get called in and walked to our table, which thank God it was inside, otherwise with all that heat we wouldn’t have been able to withstand. But, we came to a hard realization after just minutes of sitting inside. The place has no air conditioning! Just fans! Going there for lunch, in a summer hot day, 95 degrees outside… it should be a no-go! Our waitress’ hair sticking on her profoundly sweaty neck, the sweaty shirt of another staff member running around with a spray bottle, and the red face of another staff member - a young lady perhaps in her mid 20’s which made me think of menopause - would be indicative of what we were to go through shortly. While I can say that the food wasn’t bad, I can also say that even though we ordered main dishes, the quantity was for starters. Though none of the dishes we ordered, mentioned chips, it seemed as they’d serve chips generously. More than half the dish was covered in chips. Come to think about it, everything we ordered was simple and there’s a big chance that food should have been already been cooked which doesn’t justify another 35 minutes of wait time! My wife started to have difficulties breathing. The place was so crowded, and with no AC, I started to have difficulties breathing too. 10 minutes through after our dishes arrived and I could feel my sweat running down my cheeks, forehead, and down my back, so I had to ask for the check shortly after, and couldn’t seem to leave soon enough! Just before getting up, I sensed a draft from behind my back. Turned around and see a tower fan that I guess had just kicked in, and no wonder why. It was set at 83 degrees!!! Oh, man!
While the service was courteous, this was the ONLY thing positive I experienced here… unfortunately. Now, would I go there again? No! Would I recommend it? No, sir! And to be honest, I don’t even understand the hype for this place having experienced it myself. Sadly, as a customer, I am...
