I'm leaving a low rating due to the food, and my utter disappoint of the mac & cheese 😭 I will start off and say that the waitress was very kind and what you look for. She easily earned her tip. Unfortunately the food was far from the service I received. The bar area was over half full and soon after we sat in our booth on the restaurant side, it began filling up. I was very hopeful when we placed our order that everything was going to be spectacular. We ordered: bacon cheese fries, hamburger meal, the roast beef with mashed potatoes and a side of baked mac & cheese. The fries was quite a grease pit and slightly soggy. The hamburger truly lacked seasonings! The person with me who ordered it expressed if they would season their meat it would improve it by so much! The roast beef with gravy and potatoes was good, though I requested no mushrooms but had to pick them out (not a big deal, just wasn't what ordered), the amount of potatoes is so much! I would suggest to reduce the potatoes and add just a bit more beef. Overall I'd say it is a safe dish to order. The pics in the reviews of their mac & cheese had me drive out of my way because I was craving some homemade southern made mac and cheese, but it'd NOT! It's the equivalent knock off of a stouffers mac & cheese. It is absolutely disgusting and I couldn't eat it. I travel across the US and there is so much potential here for this place. First fix the mac and cheese situation. Hell I'll send my grandma's recipe if you need it! You are in the heart of the south... so please do the south & Virginia right by fixing this! The brown gravy tastes & appears to be like your basic bagged gravy, it isn't homemade or at best it might be cut with it...just male homemade beef gravy.
The amount of money coming in there due to the busy bar side & restaurant I'd say, make smaller portions, create seasonal recipes, homemade mac & cheese and season your meat. Create a nice house ranch & serve real sour cream, not that...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped in for lunch today. It was not busy at all. Our waitress sat us and took our drink orders. Which was crazy because you only get 1 refill. We haven't been anywhere in years where you only get 1 refill. Anyway, my wife ordered the fish and I ordered the "whole hog." The waitress wasn't very friendly at all. She returned 5 minutes later to tell me they didn't have the ingredients for the whole hog so I needed to order something else. As I'm reading the menu she is sighing and tapping her foot so I rush to order the "smash burger." Food comes out maybe 15 minutes later. The server basically tosses my plate on the table and it makes a loud bang. She doesn't ask if we need anything or if we are ok. She just drops the food off and takes off. The burger was cold and the thinnest burger I've ever had apart from a McDonalds cheese burger. The fries were room temperature as well. I was so frustrated I had forgotten to take a picture of the food before I started eating it. We needed more napkins and I would've liked a refill on my lemonade but the waitress never came back to ask us until we were finished our food. She came back, took my plate and said do you need another drink? I said no thank you our meals are done now. She takes our plates, puts the receipt on the table and stands there obviously inconvenienced. This was our first time at this place so my wife asks "do I pay you now?" And she simply just says "yeah" like we were supposed to know. She brings my wife's card back and we leave. The only reason this place didn't get a 1 star is because the atmosphere was nice and the other servers and bartender were all really nice. I actually told my wife I was jealous we didn't get the other waitress because she was so nice with her customers. My wife said her food was good. Sadly I believe this will be our first and only time going here. Might give it a try in the future but will be requesting a...
Read moreNormally I would try to give servers the benefit of a busy day, however having 3 different servers? The first person took our drink orders, the second person tried to ask for the drink orders again?? And took our entree orders. The first person came back with the drinks and disappeared? The third person brought out the appetizers very quickly and the cheeseburger egg rolls were delicious but small. The onion rings were very good and warm. The second person popped up to see if we needed drink refills and we asked How about the entrees ?? Because it was quite a while since the appetizers had come out and BAM she had the entrees that had to have been sitting under the heat lamp because they certainly weren't Hot and barely warm the fries were luke warm at best. As for the coleslaw I had to add S&P to get some kind of flavor and it was curious after adding the S&P the coleslaw started to bubble I know it was the salt and cabbage that was cooking and causing the bubbles but it just looked weird. After cutting through the cold beer batter the slightly warm fish was good but I love Haddock so I give it a pass, BUT I think the worst part was the coffee, if you recall the old adage cup of " MUD " not even a Joe just mud and according to the server a fresh pot??? I think this is the first time I have only left a 10% tip. Truly a shame because the atmosphere is totally a 60s diner very nice. I can see having a third person bringing out the food when the other servers are busy but leaving the food out getting cold is unacceptable because the other two servers aren't communicating with each other. The entrees might have tasted better if they hadn't gotten cold. We were hoping to have breakfast but weren't offered a breakfast menu just lunch. Sorry but...
